I love all of your FOs! Especially your day 13 advent sock! Re: gusset BOR on the Stephen West socks. The BOR for gussets is always in the middle of the bottom. Once I finish the gusset decreases I always change the BOR back to the beginning of the instep stitches. You might or might not be able to do that with these particular socks depending on how he's designed the last clue.

That westknits heel and gusset was bonkers. I did it, but i found myself muttering, "geez Stephen, you gotta make the heel crazy too?". You'll love a regular heel flap and gusset. Pretty sure Kay has a tutorial for a normal one. I've been doing a shadow wrap heel lately, but i think I'll go back to heel flap and gusset for my current sock.

Like Kay (the Crazy Sock Lady), I LOVE yarnable. I use heel flap and gusset often because I have a high instep and need more room in that area. This means that I can add more rows to the heel flat to increase the instep diameter and all is well.

Once you get the same number of stitches on each side , you can go back to the original BOR. Not sure about if that will work with the Stephen West sock, but on a vanilla sock it works. I use magic loop for all my socks, though I don’t do contrasting heels, toes or cuffs. I’m too lazy to weave in more ends.

I have only ever knitted heel flap and gusset and you do change to the middle of the back to begin rounds. I find that kind of heel fits everybody for whom I make socks. I think if you try a simple vanilla sock with it, you will find out how easy it is and that it feels so comfortable. Jinny UK

I make most of my socks using a 10inch needle or DPNs but I can help with your magic loop issue. I make most of my socks with a heel flap and gusset and the beginning of row always changes to the centre of the heel to make counting the decreases during the gusset easy. Using magic loop it is best to divide stitches on the top of the foot opposite the heel so that there are the same number of stitches on both sides and use stitch markers where the decreases take place. When the stitch number is back to where it should be you can change it or wait till you need to at the toe.

A few years ago my husband and I did our Friday night date night where we watched all of the Bond films in order and had a martini. It was so much fun and we really liked seeing the different interpretations of Bond over the years. We each have our favorite Bond and we very much disagree on who is best. 😂

When I make socks with a gusset, I do the BOR at the heel until the gusset is finished, then I change back to the side again.

Hey Lisa. Talked with a knit picks rep today. She said Felici yarn is not being discontinued. New colors will be out sometime by the end of the year. "POSSIBLY" by Thanksgiving. They still have their remainder yarns going for $2.99 a skein. Ken😊

After gusset decreases just knit to original BOR and finish sock. The BOR changes for the benefit of making gusset decreases easier. I’m sad about the Felici yarn too 🙁. I just discovered it this year because of your podcast! Hopefully Knitpicks will come through 🙃

I’m doing the contrast blast socks too! Love the colors you picked for yours. I personally love a vanilla sock with slip-stitch heel flap and gusset, that’s typically all I knit for my heels. For the contrast blast socks, I found the heel flap/gusset not too difficult, but that’s because I knit regular heel flaps most of the time. I think you will find a regular heel flap/gusset easier than the contrast blast ones. Excited to see how the socks finish! 🙂

I think the beginning of row goes back to normal once you have qll the gusset decreases done. I usually dont bother changing mine.

I’m with you for BOR on the socks. If I have 64 sts, 32 sts (across top of foot) are on one needle and other half on 2nd needle. No BOR in middle ! And, I’m also on the lookout for pumpkin spice creamer. 😉

When I make socks magic loop after completing the gusset decreases I move the BOR back to the end of the foot stitches. Have never made a pair of socks with as much going on as Steven Wests patterns so also don't need to think about how the stitch pattern would line up based on the directions.

I do the same as Kay. I count rows on the top of the foot once you start knitting after the heel turn. Then you don’t have to worry about how many decreases are in the gusset. Yes, the gusset is only the part with the decreases so you have done part of the foot already.

The Stephen west socks look cool, but they don't look like they'd be very comfortable to wear! I can't see the side cables feeling nice at all inside a shoe. I'm impressed that you can sit through those old movies. I try watching them, and they make me laugh, but I get so bored before they're over. 😅

When I knit a vanilla sock I never change the beginning of round. I knit my leg as long as I want it, knit the instep stitches of the next round, then start my heel flap on that same round. I just keep counting my start of round from the same place and it has never caused an issue. So much easier that way I think. You're better than me. When my sock needles (or any needles really) are all full I just buy new ones, hahaha. Do you repeat colors in your blanket? It has to be so heavy at this point. My tiny start of one feels pretty heavy. I can't wait to see your next one.

Just an FYI - but the average heel turn & gusset will be easier. For one thing, you are generally not working with two colors at once and does NOT include cables. 😊 I can’t wait to see how you add the iCord border on your daughter’s blanket! What will the finished size be off the blanket?
