There are so many good reissues of private press and rare records. I need to get a copy of Acid Archives. That Debris is right up my alley but I'll go the reissue route. The Moo Lah record also sounded cool.

Hey Dom, wonderful showing of private press albums I have maybe ten private press albums all I found from the Acid Archives. After watching this my pocket book is getting lower by the record shown lol. Happy Birthday Dom I am also born in March and will be 49 next week. Wow it’s weird when you get close to fifty. Ooh good to know, Happy Future Birthday Sean. I'm pushing my mid 40s now and I may start feeling that as I got to 45. But a few years off there. I feel you on the funds! Your videos have been doing the same. Love that Brian Jonestown, which you played a while ago and I bought. Pat Kilroy and the other T2 also got me trigger happy. Take care!

Definitely dig the off the beaten path records rather than the same old stuff everyone shows.

This one did not pop up in my subscriber feed until now Dom. Like Chris's comment below, I also love finding private presses. They are all blind buys for me because I never know any of them. The music that is playing in the background of every one of my videos is from a band named Genre from Palm Springs, California. The album is called 'Commercial Success'. It was a one off on the Black Gold label. After the album was released they all went into obscurity. Here is a blurb from Prog Archives: "This group was located in Palm Springs, California and recorded only one album for the Black Gold label. Genre were drummer David Maxwell, bassist Wally Stahl, keyboardist Matthew Mahboub and guitarist L.A. Jenkins. The sole LP of the band carried the title ''Commercial success'' and was released in 1978. I doubt the band meant all this thing about ''Commercial success'', cause' with such a complicated and smoky style chances to hit the charts were dead zero. Genre played a complex Jazz Fusion with some superb interplays and intricate breaks, suffering a bit from period production qualities, but ending up to be one of the strongest ''unknown'' records of US Fusion during late-70's.With a creative keyboardist using electric piano and synthesizers and a gifted guitarist with a fiery and confident style the material is pretty nice, not forgetting to thrown in some lounge atmospheres and melodic tunes, but basically offering dense, jazzy instrumentals with numerous tempo changes and even some Latin Jazz influences in several moments. Excellent electric solos and some funky inspirations are also present, while the atmospheres consist of both playful and more dramatic segments. ''Commercial success'' of course passes often through the typical, airy moods of late-70's with the band delivering tropical Jazz music, but the next moment the material becomes absolutely technical with certain progressive vibes via the unusual display of different rhythms and the nice instrumental interactions." {end} Anyways this album was sent to me via the VC Love Train by johncolrane68 Chris. Fusion was really the only genre of jazz that I was listening to at the time. After Chris sent a package Teddy {eat.sleep.vinyl} sent me six superb jazz albums and a few other VC members did the same. For the next month or so I was listening to a slew of different albums/artists. It was fabulous. Nowadays my two favorite styles of jazz are free and hard bop more than anything else. Cecil's 'Unit Structures' is killer. But I am still spinning the Genre album more than all of the others. I would be interested to hear if you ever came across this album. Granted, it may not blow you away like it did me. But I do think that for a debut album you will give the band props~ Rob/Boston

Well hot damn, what a nice LP for Chris to send you Rob. No I haven't seen that Genre record but it looks cool as hell. I will check it out for sure. Finding private presses is one of the few spots you can still find gems these days. Most of the time, they do NOT pan out but there's some gold out there for sure. Many collectors and diggers pass em up because they can just look worthless. (as I'm sure I have) Which they usually are. But still a fun thing to look for. Thank you Rob, hope you are well.

Ya weird this video did not pop up in my feed..a topic near and dear too my heart..the private press..I have been obsessively collecting these particular pressings in the genre or styles I like for many years now. And I still see things pop up I have never heard of.. The acid archives though most of it is outside my musical interests is still a great read and resource. I have most of the lp's you showed and the eaton is a particular favorite. One of the interesting things about private press stuff is the artist is free to explore his vision without any commercial or even artistic restraint. And it often leads to something pure and singular. As is the case with most of the lp's shown here. Have you heard carl erdmann bizzarrophytes that is one of my favorite private press lp's of all time. Great texas ethno-acid folk stuff.. Anyway enjoyed the video brother..much love chris

Thanks so much for tuning in Chris! Yeah I posted this on Wed March 3rd and I noticed no plays for 3 days. I believe me titling it "Private Press" cause youtube to block it so I renamed it "Custom." Though I know other videos have made it through with that title. In any case, just a bunch that I thought would be cool to show. Some other cool stuff here so maybe a part 2. Of course there are reissues too. The "purity" aspect you mentioned is what I love the most about what comes out of these records. I will check out the Carl Erdmann, sounds very nice and worth some time. Many thanks again!

Those are excellent LPs you have there. I own about half of those (reissue of course). The Moolah is the one I think you would dig the most. Incredible and under-rated. take care !

Great vid, love the topic...I just started working for a new reissue label called Forager Records with our first comp of 70s folk psych out 3/20. Curious if you’ve ever heard Steve Weichert’s 1975 self-titled private LP...unfortunately he passed a few years ago, but I’ve been reaching out to his family to learn more about him and try to get a reissue done...I bought the lone copy I could find on discogs

Yes, figured you'd get into this one. I actually posted this 4 days ago but it was being hidden by youtube. I think it was cause I had "private press" in the title which I believe hasn't been an issue before. Changed it...anycase I saw a pre-order for the comp via LITA and it looks pretty interesting. Going to have to seek it out. I am not familiar with Steve Weichert but hopefully you can make that happen. Will give it a listen. Take care Brendan
