Episode 144: Motorcycle Ride to the Top of Rich Mountain

In this episode, we ride our motorcycles up to the top of Rich Mountain, the highest peak in the Ouachita National Forest and the second-highest peak in all of Arkansas.
We visit Queen Wilhelmina State Park and the beautiful and historic Queen Wilhelmina Lodge, which sits at the top of the mountain. Named after the longest reigning queen of the Netherlands, the lodge first opened in 1898.
After a stroll around the lodge, we head to the miniature railroad for a train ride and an ice cream cone. The 1952 vintage miniature train is the only miniature railroad in all of Arkansas and allows well-behaved small dogs to ride as well.
Next, we visit the Wonder House, an architectural phenomenon that appears to be a typical two-story cabin from the outside, but on the inside, it contains nine different levels of living space.
We finally make our way back down the mountain following the Talimena Scenic Drive, which offers some spectacular views and ends in the town of Mena.
Join us for what turned into an awesome fall day!

@@TipsyMarlinTravels It will come in time. Don't push yourself too hard at first and watch out for the sand on the corners and freshly rained on roads. The oil beads up on the asphalt and can scare the you know what out of you if your not expecting it.

I miss the Fall colors, they say in TN it is prettier than it has been in years. The colors sure are pretty in this video. We didn't go home to TN after our summer travels , we just dropped south to TX. Thanks for the ride.

Rich mountain is a very nice place to visit! Oh I see you went up the north side of the mountain instead of going thru downtown. There are some amazing views from up there! Used to be a very good place to eat too! Very good video and taken on such a beautiful day! Always loved the horn on that little train!

We have been up there a couple of times this summer and we really enjoy it. You're right, the views from the top of the mountain, and from the turnouts on the highway, are amazing.

Both sound like fun! I like to throw the train stuff in for my brother, because he's a train buff and an engineer with BNSF Railroad. We'll have to remember those when we get back out to the west coast.

Wondering, it might be nice to add a bit of motorcycle engine sound to the ride. 🇨🇦

We had the motorcycle sound originally and I thought about leaving it in, but I was afraid it might be too distracting. I'll leave some of it in next time.
