Demystifying Re-Refined Base Oils: Quality, Sustainability, and Future Trends
In this episode, we delve into the world of re refined base oils, thanks to our special guest from Safety Clean, Joel Garrett. We discuss the re refining process, from collecting waste oil to producing high-quality base oils equivalent to Group II+. We debunk the common myth of re refined oils being lesser quality than virgin based oils and highlight why these misconceptions exist. Furthermore, we talk about the spectrum of quality within the industry, the profitability of re refining processes in comparison with traditional base oil production, and the future evolution of re refinement and its potential impact on the lubricant industry. Last but not least, we delve into the environmental implications, discussing both the carbon footprint reduction and sustainability aspects of re refining.

As an end consumer I used Valvoline Next gen oil 10 odd years ago. I thought at the time it was a great product and it was marketed as 50% re-refined oil which I personally thought was great. The market however must not have gelled with the idea and its no longer available and just disappeared from shelves after a while. As a collective we just don't put enough value on using recycling products (no matter what that end product may be)

Rerefined are in many products now. It’s just not advertised . They work as well or better than virgin oils.

does Safety Kleen make group 3 base stock? I live near the re-refinery of Breslau, Ontario, Canada and I have been trying to buy some performance plus full synthetic 5w30 because I have read a lot of good reviews of this product, but it is virtually impossible to get, I wrote to Safety Kleen and was referred to a reseller who doesn't sale detail, so my question is, where can I buy this product at a reasonable price and why it is not readable available for the DIY mechanic, thank you, great video.

Group II+ is hiw the end product is classified but we often produce a group III base lube in our process. Have to convince your local mechanic to use it because we don't push retail merchandising right now.

Try your nearest Peterbilt or Kenworth dealer actually - it's PACCAR endorsed and they may already use it and stock it in their parts department.
