In this weeks episode we look at the importance of correctly focussing on an subject. We learn how to choose our focus points on a bridge camera the Canon Powershot SX50hs as well as a Nikon SLR camera.
When you correctly focus on a subject you can tell a story because your eye always travels to the sharpest part of the image.

I have a canon sx50 for ages. I took it out of retirement after watching your first episode. I thought it was too complicated but you explain things so well and I love how you say Learn your camera. It's not the camera, its you and the work you put into your photography. That was really inspiring.
I'm loving your tutorials! I've had the canon sx50 for about a week and am learning SO much from your lessons. Thank you Marius.
This is a great series of tutorials, even in 2021, thanks mate.
I am so glad a ran into your youtube videos. I'm looking forward to learning from these videos.
Man you're videos are so inspiring. These are my tutorials for life. thanks so much.
Of all the tutorials I've seen on KZread, this is where I find so much learning, especially that I also just bought the Canon sx50 hs. Thank you, and looking forward to viewing Episodes 3 and up.

You are brilliant in explaining photography..I come back to your tutorials all the time..it's sad that you stopped making videos.
I just found your videos today and watched 1 and 2. I have the SX50 and love it but am a novice photographer. It really helps to have someone explain the settings on my particular camera and how they work. I'm very excited about watching your additional videos. Good job, and thank you!

Hello Marius, this is Marius from The Netherlands (yes we have the same name). Your video is very good and a great help to me. I use the SX60HS. But in order te be able to move the AF you will have to go back to the menu first to choose FLEXI. When on FACE or so, it won't work.
I've played with my Sx50 forever and never noticed that framing option. very handy. nicely done video and thank you kindly.

Hey there just wondering if you are able to do a time lapse video or shots on the Canon Sx 50 HS?
hi just asking whether is there any otherway to transfer photo from the canon sx50 hs without using laptop/computer? i mean by using phone apps, wifi, camera cable?
Thanks for sharing. I have a Powershot SX500 is and don't believe I have the same button. The button in the place you are showing is for review on my camera. Do you happen to know how to so this on the camera I have? I'm trying to photograph jewelry and I can only focus on one earring and the other one is blurry. Thanks!
I want to thank you for your lessons. I am new to photography, but very interested. I would like to know which of these cameras is best including weather proof. pentax k 50, canon sx60 hs or the nikon d3300 by MWEST Photography
Good Morning!! Is it possible to increase the target area of focus?
Waaah. I have a Canon SX60hs, best camera I've ever owned, these videos are the best tutorials I've ever seen, watched episode 2 over and over, made multiple efforts to change focus using the same features in P Mode on my camera as on SX50 and the. images. are. absolutely. identical. It must be me because it's not the camera or the video. Sigh. Back to the salt mines (i.e., trying again).

+Marsh Rose Glad you love the show. You can try to reset your camera. It might solve the problem.
Which camera would you suggest to purchase between Sx60 HS and Canon 77d ? My requirement landscape and wildlife photography and some portrait pics .
I have not got the button on Canon SX50 HS you are referring to? I am trying to get clear focus of birds/food on table. Zoom is also necessary. Focus not possible on windy days. Date and time stamp also necessary that I can only get on auto. Would you please explain how I resolve this. Grateful thanks,
I use the Canon XS60HS and like your videos!!! But how come I only get one green square in view when I focus. I tried a lot but this camera simply seems to have only one green square instead of Multi in my previous camera (Lumix). Do you know more about this?
Hi, you are doing great job. One question, when you push the shutter button, the red camera icon blinking on screen, why? Sorry for my english. Greetings from Poland.
parabens.. gostei...
Hi Marius. When I first got this camera, I didn't know how to use it except auto. I took pics of ppl and when I was uploading the pics I saw little videos of the ppl coming together to pose for the pics. Really cool feature . I don't know what feature is that! . Can you tell me what it is and how to get it back?
I have the sx50 and after a while of video recording the screen goes off and the video stops recording. Any ideas have I accidentally hit something in settings maybe?.
You really inspired me on your first episode..

So glad I came across your videos! This one really helped me a lot! I was wondering if you have one on photographing a person-child specifically. I seem to be hit and miss on good photos of my kids and I'm not sure what I'm doing differently on the hits. Lighting/flash and crispness is a big issue of mine.

@MWESTPhotography

Hi. Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy the show. Your SX50HS has a fixed lens so you cannot change that lens. You can fit an adapter to the front which will allow you to fit close up filters or wide angle filters to it. Have a look at episode 14 where I discuss filters. I will also have a episode on close up and wide angles filters in a future episode.
Thank you

I just found your videos. Thank you I am enjoying them. I like a few others received a sx50 for Christmas. A lot to learn but I am excited to do so. I am looking forward to your series. Q: Is there a way to use a remote shutter on the sx50 so I can be 20 or 30' away?
@MWESTPhotography
10 жыл бұрын
Its a pleasure. Glad you enjoyed them. The SX50HS does have a socket to the side to fit a cable release so you can buy a wireless cable release which will allow you to be far away from the camera.
DO you have videos on Mirrorless cameras

Hi Marius, I can't find which/where to adjust the focus point whilst looking through the view finder in a Canon SLR. Oh, and do you have tips to prevent blurry photos. Im sorry for asking many questions. I'm quite embarrassed for having such a good camera but haven't got a clue of how to use it properly! :(
@MWESTPhotography
9 жыл бұрын
Yu H On a Canon SLR there is usually a button in the top right corner at the back of the camera. The button has got a bunch of dots on it. If you press the button you will see inside the viewfinder that the focus points light up and you can select the desired one. Make sure you hold your camera properly and stand sturdy when you shoot. Also make sure your shutter speed is not too slow. That will help with blurry pics.
why so low blurry in sx50?
I just received a SX50 HS for Christmas and I'm delighted to have your videos as a guide! I was trying the focusing technique but can't get the square to turn orange or move around. It doesn't do anything! I'm guessing some other setting needs to be changed, but I don't know where to start. Can you help?

Dont know. I have not used the P600 yet. sorry.
Do we have to buy specific camera/video camera for focussing the subject?
@MWESTPhotography
10 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam. On your more expensive cameras you have a manual focus ring that you can use to adjust the focus from one subject to the other. I record all my video on my Nikon SLR cameras. It allows me to use manual focus. Automatic focus on a SLR is not recommended. Your entry level video cameras usually focus by itself.
Why the difference between the Canon Powershot and the SLR?
i am having troub with my focusing i can get it to focus in the middle but i cannot figure out how to move the selective focus (or get it to turn orange) i know you probable havent used my camera but any idea how to do this? my camera also does not have the button that you press to turn the box orange what would the setting be called?

You may already know this, but usually, when a camera is on a tripod, it performs better with the IS turned off. Basically, it's trying to compensate for camera shake that isn't there, so it can actually give you worse images.
@MWESTPhotography
9 жыл бұрын
nicodimus2222 Yes, some lenses and cameras are ok with it but I always turn my IS off on my lenses. It creates weird lines on your image.
