Epiphone - Thunderbird IV Bass
Музыка
Today Cory is talking about the @OfficialEpiphone Thunderbird IV Bass. It has Vintage Vibes, Modern Tones, all in an Affordable Package.
The Thunderbird’s unique “reversed” zig-zag body design and the equally distinct headstock was the brainchild of legendary automotive designer and visionary Ray Dietrich who was enlisted by the Kalamazoo factory to bolster the electric guitar line and help solidify the factory’s eminent rank among solid-body electric guitar manufacturers.

Thanks for a great demo. Too many youtube demos seem to be about people showing off their bass skillz rather than playing similar, basic stuff while varying the settings.

A buddy just gave me one for no reason. First time I got "that" sound that I always wanted from a bass. Incredible tone.
I just started playing bass (been a guitarist for the past 15 years) and I don't know what it is about my epi thunderbird but I absolutely love it. I just get this SUPER tight punch when I isolate the neck pickup and a mean growl with just the bridge. I got it for like 300 bucks and I couldn't be happier
I do prefer the epiphone thunderbird than the gibson version and actually I bought it some years ago, I cant regret about it

"Lots o' rock n' roll goodness in there". I love it!
This was the only bass that had that plucky/funky sound I wanted. I never felt the need to buy a more expensive Gibson or Fender when this had the The exact sound I was looking for. The only Drawback I can think of is that it’s a heavy instrument. If I was sitting at rehearsal, I was fine … but my shoulder would be sore after a full set on stage.
Love that bass it self, I've had it for a while and I couldn't be happier with the iconic t bird look. If you want to make it even better, you can change the pickups into the Gibson humbuckers, but over all even with the current pickups it's an awesome bass
Using the T Bird for like... 15 years now... still something. The best one Period. Even better then the GIBSON version that i have too.
i love how powerful this bass is with the treble off. amazing
I’ve got two epiphone thunder birds, I’ve played other basses and got to say it’s one of the best out there .
First time I ever saw anyone slap and pop a Thunderbird bass - NICE!!! By the way, the Thunderbird's design is futuristic and timeless!
Managed to pick one of these up preowned for a third of the retail price. I am very, very happy with it. Nice video!
I like how this man reviews. Very useful video, thanks a lot.

Just got mine today! The bridge was weird to me at first, but quickly got the hang of it. Great tone as well.
Great demo. I liked your cool, unassuming style. Thank you!
Great review and demonstration!
aaah man i love this guy! haha. not a lot of presenters are worth listening to and the audio was recorded real well. (which is also often an issue on demo videos!) good job! i thought i only wanted the black Thunderbird ! but since i saw this im gonna go for the sunburst version instead! i was afraid it wouldnt look cool enough ! kickass demo guys!
Cant wait to get my hands on one of these bad boys
Great review dude. Im buying one
I am from indianapolis i just discovered your channel awesome keep it up brothers
I don't know what it is about this bass, but as a guitarist who picks up bass guitars in the store every time I go, I still remember picking one of these up like 6 years ago and how it sounded exactly like I thought a bass guitar should sound like. I think I need to get one.
Nicely done review. Thanks.

Great review, refreshing when the bass takes centre stage other than "look what I can play". Also not slapping for 10 minutes is always good 👍
It’s good to see someone finally slap a thunderbird
I bought a used China-made one for 120€ (including a hard case!) at a flohmarkt in a Germany.. the neck is not exactly straight, but it doesn't trouble me when playing..although the huge size and heavy neck, man..the sound is unbelievable. One of the best purchases in my life..
Very nice tone.
What a fantastic review! Great playing that really shows what this can do.
I have one like this, and another Epiphone Tbird - but thát one is the Pro 5string. The Pro basically covers all I need to do on bass, but the regular 4string wasn't really cutting the mustard... Until I converted to fretless! After taking the frets out I darkened the entire fingerboard, and covered it with epoxy. Sanded that to the original radius and polished it up. Now it has a lovely growl, but some really nice mid-high harmonics too... To match the 5 I've strung it as B-E-A-D (so a 5string set, but no G string), and if I bring these two to any gig or studio, I'm good to go.
I just got the Vintage Pro model . You should do a comparison of the 1V and V Pro. Nice vid!
Great vid!
My first bass and my first love ❤ I know there's some 'better' basses out there but it'll always be special to me
I prefer this to the neck through version. Just seems more comfortable to me. Currently have the Thunderbird Vintage PRO in white and love the tone but the bass is huge with the extended headstock. I'd like to see Epiphone put the PRObucker pickups in the bolt on T-bird. Perfect!

Fr I'd take a bolt-on bass over a set neck any day, changing out the neck when shit hits the fan just seems like a nicd prospect. For now I'm stuck with a beatle bass copy, dinky little thing.
"The Gibson Thunderbird was introduced in 1963 and was designed by U.S. auto designer Raymond H. Dietrich along with the Gibson Firebird guitar, which it resembles in design, construction, and name. In 1966, Gibson changed the Thunderbird's design and construction. The original Thunderbirds and Firebirds had a "reverse" body, with the treble horn extended and the bass horn recessed. Due to a lawsuit brought by Fender because of the resemblance to the Fender Jazzmaster, the body styles were modified, with the result being called the "non-reverse" body Epiphone Thunderbird The Epiphone Thunderbird IV & V is a budget alternative to the Gibson models and has a maple bolt-on construction onto an alder body. The Epiphone Thunderbird Pro IV & V are closer to their Gibson counterparts with a neck-thru body design and upgraded woods, hardware and electronics."
Glenn Cornick loved his reverse Thunderbird.
I have the Gibson and hell yes reggae blues jazz, funk, rock, prog whatever you want it can do.
I keep looking for a bass that sounds as good and is as versatile as my Thunderbird. Can't find one! It does everything--though I find it sounds best with all the knobs on full.
I upgraded my tuning keys (Grover) & bridge (Hipshot) very pleased don't care it's not a Gibson / 2020 Epiphone Thunderbird IV bolt on neck Ernie Ball 105-50 regular slinkys can't go wrong
I wish they had a shortscale of this one
My Epiphone Thunderbird (which I bought 10 or 15 years ago) has the front strap button attached to the body above the neck. I notice yours has the strap button attached to one of the neck bolts. Is that how the bass now comes from the factory or was that a modification? I imagine it helps with the neck-body balance. Mine is neck heavy and the headstock will fall towards the ground unless I hold it in place.

I've just set up a 2009 china model which had that problem. I moved the button to neck bolt position ,as on newer models, much more comfortable. Impressive sounding bass!!

I have an older model, and it has the front strap button attached to the body above the neck as well. I think later models moved the position to fix the neck dive problem.
Anyone able to comment on how the IV compares to the Vintage Pro version?
how are the strings changed on this model? thank you!
U reccomend me this bass? I found a White versione with a cross on pickguard but i donw know the model
I might get this as a guitarist because I haven’t had a bass before

@@schecter5035 sorry, mate. Have a Korean one myself. it's a special bass, you will read everywhere that it's made for Rock and metal. That's right but it's versatile though. The only bummer is the neckdive. But check out death metal band 'Barn'. Their bassist got one i think and he's handling it quite smoothly.
Great for people who do not have the money for the Gibson
Is it good for a beginner?

Bought this as my third ever bass, the main issue I had as a fairly new bassist was its design. It's huge - a little over 46 inches - so I had to spend a bit more on an extreme size gig bag. Transporting it to and from rehearsal can be a pain because it's very dense wood and therefore very heavy. The strings are thin and the action is very low, so actually if you're okay with the size and weight then its playability is great for a beginner.
One of the forgotten basses. Just as good if not better then a p bass or a jazz bass.

I'm interested to hear your reasoning behind this. I'm watching this video as I just saw those basses getting used from time to time. The tone is just so muddy and undefined to me, I don't know why.

I have to agree. My friend who was like 6’3 borrowed mine once and said it was the heaviest bass he ever used. This thing was a beast, sound wise, but I’m 5’6…my neck and shoulder would be killing me after a full set on stage.

Too bad the neck dive on this makes hard to play live.
It's not supposed to be played sitting down!
