Played a 63 T-Bird 70-s to 80's, sold it and a 64 and 76 in 1989. Got one of these Epi's in 2017, it's been my main bass since. SO GLAD Epi did these, like meeting an old friend after so many years!!!
I am a long time Thunderbird admirer as well...and I want one of these! You sound pretty good on bass Dagan!
Great video! About a year ago I bought an Epi Firebird in mint condition and love it. Couple of weeks ago I thought, "I should get the Thunderbird to match it." And I don't even play bass. Tonight I walked into a second hand shop and walked out with a Thunderbird and the gig bag in great condition for $150.
I played one of these in guitar center the other day was was absolutely blown away by the tone and playability for like $600
Awesome looking and sounding bass! For the price, it's hard to beat.
I really, REALLY, like that bass. Good job, Dagan!
My Thunderbird is a 2013 50th anniversary model and I named him Mr. Overend Watts.
I've been looking for a bass guitar for a while so this is definitely on my list

Yeah, Gibson don’t have the same… standing? With bass. Their history’s a bit mixed and they’ve never put the same effort in. A thunderbird is a great second or third bass, but not many bassists these days use a Gibson style as their main bass. They have a Gibson sound, which is great for classic rock, but they’re also a bit limited in range, and that bass has a lot of neck dive. The generic ‘best bass’ for a new player is really any 4 string with PJ pickups as it gives you the most range in tones when you’re not sure what’s what, but if you’re in to a specific genre have a loot what’s popular there - metal really really prefers humbuckers, and whilst most shouldn’t start with a 5 string, for metal you probably do want a 5 string for example
Best Thunderbird player has to be the icon himself, Pete Way.

I love everything about this bass, the neck-through construction and being able to see the layers top to bottom really appeal to me, also the two-tone headstock is beautiful. This is on my short list of new guitars to get and would be my first bass, not a bad one to learn on!

I'd like to argue against your "not a bad one to learn on". I'm a bassist and used to own a tbird, this model but in black. It's massive, it feels twice as long as more efficient designs, its also uncomfortable as hell. Yet i still wan't one again. It just has some unbeatable mojo and you immediately feel like a rockstar when playing it. I feel that for beginners, especially smaller beginners that the bass could be a hindrance and discouraging. Idk, maybe im just pondering to much 😂

I have to agree it's not a bad bass to learn on. I'm not a pure bass player but I hope Epiphone and Gibson do a 5 string version. I'd buy one in a heartbeat

@@phipschi4255it does turn an ordinary bass player into a rock star without ever playing a note. That’s said; they’re not for everyone.
just got a 60s Thunderbird Bass makes my 2nd one in my collection Love them my favorite Bass player is Pete Way of UFO !!
These things look so rad
Saw a 64 Gibson TBird 1V in a pawn shop cherry sunburst finish for $400.00. Awesome sounding bass!!!! 👍
Got the Harley Benton version, it's awesome.
Favorite T-Bird player is whoever played the intro on the song "Hero" by Warrior Soul.
As of typing this comment I’m getting one today and I’m super excited! Also fav thunderbird players and dolf de Borst of the Datsuns and John entwhistle.
Love the looks and I'm sure these new are better my old (early 2000's?) Epi T-Bird had mega neck dive and a really thick neck that I just could not get on with. Gave it away to my bass player mate. Great memories though of UFO's Pete Way using one at the Glasgow Apollo! Maybe I need to try the new one?

A good thick strap and moving the bottom pin up onto the wing was all it took to beat that neck dive for me.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but that sounded like Sumthin for Nuthin at the start! 😃. Always love a good Thunderbird demo!

that sounds (as you would say) "mint"!
at least they didn't use that pos 3 piece bridge. Epiphone thunderbird pro with active pups is my bird of choice.

That bass looks like it fits you. I'll take one if you ship to the usa??? Did Entwistle play one?
Always when I see this I think of Nikki Sixx and oddly Cliff Williams from back in black album 😅

Neck dive is not an actual issue once you've actually played it more than three or four times. You just get into the habit of holding onto the neck.
@j.rhodesbass225

That's really the only thing that has kept me from getting one. I've always dug the look and tone but for me a bass has to "check all boxes" and comfort while wearing is an important one. I like to be able to not touch the instrument and have it stay put ya know?
Pete Way 😎

Bass guitars should only ever be demo'd in the context of a mix. Change my mind.
@phipschi4255

Fair enough, really, but i like to just hear baselines on their own sometimes. But you are right, the sound of a bass alone is far less important than on a guitar. Realise how the most boring bass tones sound the best in a mix while clean and modern hifi basses get always drowned in the mix?
Biggest mistake I ever made was selling my 60's TBird bass. Nothing in the works sounds like it.
You should bury it in your garden, Dagan 😂
