I love that west side of the Ozarks near the Mulberry River. I’ve heard about Frog Bayou Falls but haven’t made it over there. Thanks for the video of trail. We’re looking forward to coming up in May to explore some trails east of Byrd’s. Keep livin’ the dream!

@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Looks like a lot of fun. You'd need a pretty big rig to get up it I reckon. Go for it. Just do it safely. You should have had both hands on the wheel and your seatbelt on for that little climb down even though you've done it before. Ive noticed both of you don't like to wear your seatbelts much actually.

I made it to Frog Bayou Falls last year, but my stock Isuzu Trooper couldn't handle the western half of the trail. I dealt with the rocks just fine, but the ditches were too deep for me.

Overlanding in its simplest terms is off road vehicular camping... There are many channels who in the interest of cranking out weekly content have resorted to doing trail ride picnics and calling that overlanding, but doing so certainly falls short of the basic definition of overlanding. The "hotel note" was hilarious. need to work on that wifi access though :)

You can actually legally cross the waterfalls at Frog Bayou to access private property on the other side. Jim Walton owns 159 acres right across the falls. He’s got an easement across the walls.

I'm not sure where you heard that but Mr. Walton doesn't own the land directly across the falls. He owns land upstream from it and none of it actually comes down to the water. The land across from the falls is National Forest land and the trail on the other side of the falls is a closed trail.

Ozark Overland Adventures He does indeed own the land across from the falls and the trail crossing the falls leads to a gate to enter his property. It’s been that way for years - way before you even knew about Frog.

Matt, when you get a chance, could you ask John? what a-pillar light mounting brackets he's using. I too have a JL and I what to install the Rugged Ridge Snorkel but I thought I was going to lose the option of mounting aux a-pillar lights. Great vid. We can't wait to get back up there for a long weekend. (Also, can't wait for our vacation in Ridgway, Co (just northwest of Ouray) this Aug/Sept)

Hey Ron. They are custom fabricated. To mount in the cowl bolt and hinge bolt. They are inside enough to clear the snorkel.

EAG makes some that work, but they mount to both cowl bolts which makes the bracket more visible.

@@JohnBrodowski1 Thanks for the reply and info. I guess I'll be looking into custom brackets as well. I like the idea of using the windscreen hinge bolts for rigidity. Many mounts I've seen rely solely on the 2 cowling bolts and seem prone to failure.

I have noticed that you always use your portable fire pit even when a fire ring is already made in a campsite. Can you speak to why that is? I’m curious.

The fire pit burns much hotter and cleaner. I just prefer it to existing fire rings.

Another consideration is that some times people will throw live ammunition as a joke into the fire pits. So if you do use and established ring I would clean it out first.

Hello! Enjoy watching your videos, I am up in Iowa and would like to plan a trip down to the Ozarks. However my group all has full sized trucks, extented cab Silverados, all mechanicaly sound and sitting on at least 33 in tires. I know that limits us on a lot of trails, but would we be able to find trails that we could do with full sized trucks?

Oh yeah. There are plenty of trails you can run. You’ll get some pinstripes but that’s just part of wheeling in the Ozarks.

Looks like a blast. Wish that vehicles weren't so obscenely overpriced right now. It's really put overlanding out of reach for most people. Even Geo Trackers are selling for exorbitant prices.

I wish u will achieve your goal of full time adventure. So would I someday. 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

For Branson, Look up the Gladetop trail in the Mark Twain National Forest. I hear its beautiful and it's an easy one.

None of these trails were out and backs. They all went through and connected to other trails.

I would not want to take that trail til I get my Tacoma's tires upgraded... As a "Toyota Guy" I personally am inclined to rate overlanding vehicle choices as follows (strictly my opinion based on personal experience and following other overlander youtubers from around the world) #1:Jeep Gladiator Diesel, as it seems to be the best balance of off road capability and cargo capacity... #2 Toyota Tacoma (especially Crew Cab Long Bed)... #3 Toyota 4runner is very popular with good reason... #4 Jeep Wrangler is likely the most trail worthy, but of all the choices here, it has the least cargo capacity which has resulted in a lot of jeeps hauling "overland trailers" (not that I do not have plans of building a "chuck wagon trailer" for my Crew Cab Long Bed Tacoma, thus making it a very long and somewhat awkward trail rig, but I want that ability to set up a base camp and do side trips without having to take down camp... especially during hunting season) I do not include full size vehicles in this list as they are not internationally universal, but here in the states, I would say any of the "big three" single rear wheel diesel trucks, though I would much prefer a 3/4 ton with an airbag helper spring over a 1 ton as the springs on the 1 ton truck, thus the ride is much stiffer. While the full size trucks can handle the camping side of overlanding far easier, they are not as well suited as their mid size cousins on the trails in much of the world. Honorable mention to the list: Classic Land Rover Defender 110 (not the new crap... erm I mean new SUV they have stuck the name on in hopes of some nostalgia sales) but I do not include it on the list because it is increasingly difficult to get one in good enough shape to be considered a serious overlander, and has always bordered on impossible in the states unless you where one of those folk lucky enough in the 90s to be able to afford to drop $40,000+ on a trail rig or can currently afford to drop close to a quarter million on one. on the other hand if I ever move to Europe or the UK for some reason, you can bet I am going to be looking for an exMOD landie. :) I have come to the following conclusion in the 3 decades I have been doing what we have now taken to calling overlanding... Overlanding can be done in ANY vehicle from a motorcycle (though the dualsport people call their version adventure touring, it is the same thing we are doing but with less tires and less gear) so long as it can handle back country access roads. An overland vehicle should have no less than 31" tires (for most of the AWD and even 2wd cars... 33" for a 4x4 Jeep, Truck, or SUV) and no more than 35" tires. More than 35" tires is more for a trail rig or rock crawler, but quickly develops too high of a center of gravity with all the gear we throw on them (full size trucks may go larger within reason I have seen many full size rigs sporting 35-37" tires, and a couple well built trucks on 40s but they are the exception, not the rule as most full size trucks on 40s are going to have too high of a center of gravity as well.) (yes on a trail Jeep I would go 35-37" tires, but on an overlander jeep I would go no more than 35s. As soon as I have to replace my current tires (31-32" ATs) I am getting a set of 255/85r16 KM3s or Geolander MTs (giving me something like 32.8") depending on availability at the time. Until I can budget some lift for my TRD off road, I will settle for loosing some compression travel and install some DIY bump stops to minimize rub. Skid plates are every bit as essential of equipment as recovery gear, and should be installed before you budget for larger tires and lift kits. (IMO skids should be on the vehicle before a winch is bought) and I consider rocker armor such as rock sliders to be a part of a complete set of skid plates as it serves exactly the same purpose in exactly the same way. Us American overlanders have developed an unhealthy focus on fancy gear (and often overpriced gear) (and yes, I am just as guilty as most other Americans at this.) A LOT of the gear I see folks using or bolting onto their vehicle on youtube (and folks I run into when wheeling) is typically not needed, and often overpriced promoted as overland gear to more efficiently separate us from our pay checks.

Great channel, but some of the most unsafe driving I have seen. One handed selfie filming down a steep incline? NO Spotters? Amongst many others. You can not positively control an out of control vehicle with one hand if things went south fast. Drive first, worry about filming second.

I appreciate the concern but I know my limitations, my driving ability, and my rig and these are trails I'm very familiar with so I don't need a spotter. I get out and spot for others that aren't as familiar with the trails.
