Epic Trails and Broken 4Runners in the Ozarks - Bonfire Run 2022 Day 1

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Every April we make an epic trip through the Ozark National Forest to the Rendezvous in the Ozarks Bonfire. We spend 3 nights and 3 days experiencing some of the best trails the Ozarks has to offer. However, on the first day, the trails would take their toll on the 4Runner in our group.

Ha! When I saw those lights pop up over the hill middle of OOAT day 2 I knew right away it was Sully. I recently lost my dad to COVID so the guys took me on a trip to one of my favorite places to go wheeling. It was a much needed trip and catching up with the crew at the top there was a lot of fun. Appreciate the knowledge share on some new routes and campsites too. Thanks for the content and I hope that 4G4R gets up and running again soon!

It still surprises me how often I see rigs without winches out on trails. Even folks who have a steel winch-capabls bumper without one. No excuse when there are quite a few awesome budget winches available these days. Also funny to see Nathan in a Wrangler now. I recently sold my ZR2 for a Gladiator Rubicon. The solid axles are a game changer in challenging situations. And it's just so much easier to go big (37s and up).

I have 450 plus miles of off road miles on the Wild Peak M/T’s. I have 4000 road miles on them. Every time guys that run into me and knew when I first bought them say they look brand new. I put them on in 2019. They are quiet but that is subject to the vehicle. Overall they are a very tough tire.

Nice video to finally watch this morning. Always love the Ozarks. We have only been a couple of time so far in different areas. I have been through Car Wash Falls twice and have yet to have much more than a trickle. It is cool to see and recognize some of the trails we were on. That first campsite you were at I also recognize, although when we went by there it was around July 4th and that sight was packed!

I'm new to winching and recovery stuffs. Straight forward winching a good rig which got diff out or get stuck due to low clearance etc. those are easy when there a many trees around, but winching out a damaged vehicle on a sketchy track is one thing i never done before and I, hope not. You made a comment comparing the trail to the last time you were on it which got me to thinking about trails in general. A lot of trails have been worn to bedrock which means a two to six foot ditch has been created. What are everybody thoughts on the future? Should the industry, in cooperation with USFS or your state authorities come up with detours or even new trails in places. This would necessarily include closing existing trails or segments of trails. If we do nothing off-roading as we know it we change for the worse over time.

Love the videos, but I would never trust a jeep over 4runner for reliability. The jeep on muddy wet trails maybe, but I've had them all and the jeep feels cheap. The new bronco feels cheap inside, but is roomier and looks better imo.

Watch more of my videos. You'll see quite a few 4 Runners limping home, being towed home, or leaving the trip early because of issues. Never happened with any Jeep in our group. Toyotas may be more reliable when on pavement but when you take them off road the reliability argument goes out the window. And i'm not just referring to one bad 4Runner, I'm talking 4 different ones spanning gen 4 to gen 5 and also Tacomas.

@@OzarkOverlandAdventures ya don't say, doesn't make it ok to use them just because you didn't make them. It will end up looking like the forest service OHV trails here with metal guard rails everywhere, or they will just gate the trail or road because "erosion into local streams is killing local fish" . Im just saying its a lie to say a forest service ROAD has a bypass, they do not and they definitely don't have bypasses for bypasses. Places where the road widens up and there are multiple paths everywhere is fuel for the groups that would love all motorized access to end. The Ozarks seem like a cool place, I'd hate to see it go.

@@250krawler I’m well aware of how it works and agree with you for the most part. To clarify I said the trail had bypasses. I never said they were created by the forest service but it’s still an existing bypass nonetheless. If you were just following the trail on the map you wouldn’t be able to tell which was the original trail and which was the bypass.
