Epic Sydney Blue Mountains Adventure Ride || The Broken Clutch

Two Suzuki DRZ400E's and a KTM350 take on the Sydney Blue Mountains for one epic overnight adventure ride. Unfortunately for me, my ride comes to a premature end due to a snapped clutch cable.

Hey mate it was nice meeting you out on the tracks! I was one of the guys helping clean up. Thank you for also putting in an effort to help us, it’s a shame that this is the reality of the bush we share. Glad to meet some like minded people out on the tracks!

My clutch lever snapped on a drop. Was riding solo on Howes trail. Luckily a guardian angel towed to top of hill, where I bump started it. Had two or three closed gates to contend with, guardian angel kept overtaking me whilst I rode slow and opened said gates. Got back to Putty Rd then had to ride home about 120km with ultra clunky clutchless gear changes and stressing about traffic lights or having to stop on an incline in traffic. Made it home with only two more bump starts. Needless to say I don’t leave home without spare levers or cable when I’m in those environments! Lance your ride home, I know how it feels mate - glad you made it I’m sure there was a few hairy moments

No worries, unfortunately we have to share the tracks with these grubs so the least we can do is clean up after them and hope the message gets out to them before rangers find it and close places we all love down.

don't waste your time carrying a clutch cable, just replace it every 6yrs or so whether it needs it or not. there's only 2 reasons they break old age and use or aftermaket levers or perches that cut the cable. replacing periodically avoids the age related failure, not using dodgt aftermarket crap eliminates the second type of failure.

Do you sometimes wish you had a lighter, more powerful enduro or is there something that makes you stick with your DRZ over all of these other nice bikes your mates bring on these adventures?

Krooztune do a 40mm lowering link then adjust the forks in the triple clamps. If you need to lower more seat concepts have a lowered seat (expensive) that's comfortable.
