John that was a weird feeling when you said they were good looking and from Russia because when I first came on to your channel there was a female beside one of the horses and I was betting to myself that she was a Russian.I kind of know if they are from Europe compared to USA or even Australia they have a certain type of look about them which I can't describe. My Father was Hungarian and you could tell he and his friends who came out with him were European
"What are they taking pictures of?" in the first minute......those of us in North America absolutely adore the style and look of those types of shopfronts you have in England (and parts of Europe). The architecture alone is well worth the pictures. You're so lucky to have streets and Burroughs that are so pleasing to the eye. :)
What the hell is wrong with some people parents have their child/childen out with them keep an eye on them. You g children will rn around they want to explore the horse guaed NO play ground. Depending on the childs age some should know better too. The guards are NOT baby siters they are on duty doing their job certainly don't want to witness idiotic behaviour.

It is Russian, John. My father speaks Russian. He was taught by the military. When he left the military, he was classified as a tri-linguist. English, French, and Russian. He then went to work as a civil servant for National Rescourses Cananda. He can still speak Rusdian today, and he learned it back in 1972. My daughter speaks Russian , she learnt when she joined Cirque De Soleil in Montreal in 1997 , there were many Russians on the squad she helped them with their English in return they taught her Russian . She was a gymnast and competed in Minsk Belorussia in 1994 , she said the people were lovely but poor , the girls on the British team left them all their toiletries and make up as they couldn't get any . They also gave away many of their leotards . She went to Ukraine twice as well , fell in a snowdrift in Kiev 😀. She still has her Great Britain tracksuits packed safely away .

She was the British teams youngest aged 13 ( and smallest ) in her first International so was chosen to carry the flag for the team . She'd moved from Artistic Gymnastics ( vault , bars , beam , floor ) to Acrobatic Gymnastics so she was the little one on top being thrown around ! Really, sometimes the people are like a pack of lions getting ready to attack. The changing over is a fairly easy process. When the new horse comes in, the guard doesn't even have a moment to settle himself or the horse before the packs attack. Give them a break people, better yet......just stay back!!

Well, we do live in a tik tok/theme park world.
There was a big gap in my visits to London. The first thing I noticed was the addition of the bollards protecting pedestrians from errant vehicles. I’ve been married long enough to say when I took my bride to the UK for the first time, we could get a picture from inside Downing Street. On the same trip, we got stopped by an old dear who started the conversation with “London didn’t used to be like this” and she proceeded to tell us about some of the interesting bits just close by. As a Canadian, my wife just assumed that practices in the UK would be very similar to home, after all, her grandmother always said the family was “British to the core”. I spent many years in the UK so my style of dress blended in, but clearly, that old dear spotted the wife as a visitor, probably took her for an American. She did experience a bit of culture shock so I took her to the Maple Leaf for drink. Hockey was on the TV. Funny how odd tidbits from the past stick with you.
I don’t understand why people feel they can touch the horses!

I'm wondering if the coverage in the Daily mail the other week has increased visitors , some will probably have had no idea Horse Guards exists and there are really horses and Troopers to see ? I do enjoy " people watching " some of the clothes , facial expressions , posing and gestures are hilarious , sometimes unintentionally at other times well you have to wonder 😂. If only all Tour Guides were as good as the man emphasising that the Troopers are trained soldiers and how to behave towards them ! Hope you enjoyed your snooker yesterday John 😀. Thanks and as always looking forward to part 2 xxx

Thank you, i was wondering about him, too. I knew it couldn't be Trojan because Trojan has one white droplet on his nose, and that's it, it's a very specific marking. And he's very restless, usually. But I knew i had seen this horse before, because of the marking on the face.

Hello from Michigan USA ❤
Hi John from Canada, might see you in April ❤
Interesting morning today - something of a mystery as to why there's so many police. Both Viper and Thor are very curious horses. Viper is a real Cav Black - can't see any white on him at all. Thor has very unusual nose/mouth markings. They're lovely horses. 🥰
The Trooper on Thor isn't giving him his head like they normally do. He's keeping a tight rein and control of him. Not like the Trooper on Viper. Viper has full use of of it's head and neck, but not with Thor. He must be new to the box or something. Just an observation. Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
WOW! 160 years that is what I wanted to know.
The cop on the spectacular gray also has a spectacular leg! Position, that is. Like all sports and really, most endeavors, the best results in riding horseback are obtained by following a set of rules which helps get us out of our own way and succeed at the given task. It also helps us get out of the horse's way. "Equitation" is knowledge accrued since the first horse was ridden, and has developed into the proper positioning of the body to create the most effective rider possible, plus applying voice, weight, hands, and legs to ask the horse to do things. Requests like circle, stop, begin to canter (slow gallop), etc. It involves performing specific movements: changing the leading leg in canter when changing direction, lateral movements (great for avoiding other riders who suddenly get in the way), keeping the fore- or hindlegs almost still while describing a circle like a compass with the opposite pair of legs (s'how gates are opened), etc etc. Each type of riding has its own rules, its own most desirable 'seat,' (the overall position) as well as its own equipment. While generally conservative, things do evolve and/or change over time in the horsey world; e.g., since the late 80s, increasing numbers of US western riders (a la les cowboys) have been using both hands on the reins, far milder bits and spurs, and saddles weighing less than 40 pounds (18+ kilos in new money).
@paulinemegson8519
Ай бұрын
Nice reply BUT I have to take exception with one thing. A canter is not a “slow gallop”, a canter is three beat, gallop is 4. Totally different gait. Otherwise, lots of good info 😀and yes that leg position was great….lots of flexion in the ankle and knee joints tho some might say her stirrups were a tad short??

Morning John. Looks like another busy day in the yard…😂 your befuddlement with the picture taking tourists reminds me of the time I took a friend from Germany to see “Hobbiton”(yes it’s touristy….it’s also very cool) We were sat in the cafe, watching a group of Japanese tourists, getting very excited and eagerly taking photos…..but I couldn’t for the life of me figure out WHAT they were taking photos OF……turns out there were a couple of sheep in a small yard, and they were what they were getting all excited about….. Sheep………to say I was confused would have been something of an understatement😳🤯🤣Sheep are……ubiquitous I guess is the word😂here. It was hard for me to imagine WHY anyone would be excited about a picture of a sheep, but they surely were🤷🤣 The horse with the unusual markings is Quarterback I believe….very handsome lad. And please, again, I BEG of you John🙏, pretty PRETTY please, when you’re trying to identify a horse, PLEASE try to get a picture that INCLUDES the front hooves and shows both rear legs, because sometimes the distinguishing mark is as tiny as a forefoot coronet marking. Yes, I have been known to yell at my iPad……”down a bit……just go down another cm or so……arrrrgggghhhhh!!!!” 🤣😳🤣 I THOUGHT I heard a lovely lilting Irish accent there…..love the Irish accent….falls soft and sweet on the ears like a soft rain on the hills of county Mayo(or something like that 😉😂)
