Epic Gymnast Upper Body Exercise You NEVER DO!

If you want to have the strength, coordination and body control like gymnasts have, you should train like them.
In this video, I’m going to show you an epic pulling exercise that gymnasts do, but you may have never even tried!
So, which exercise is it?
The so called buttermaker.
What? Excuse me?
When you are in hanging and you do a circular movement with straight body. That sounds impressive right?
So this is the exercise we’ll talk about today, a typical gymnast strengthening exercise which you may have never tried.
An easier variation of this one which is known by more people is the ice cream maker, when you basically do the same movement but without the circles.
This is a separate exercise as many know, but actually an important prerequisite of the buttermaker, so we’ll discuss it in this video.
How can you benefit from these exercises?
So I think that’s clear that gymnasts always do their routines with maximal precision, tightness and control, and this is what they strive for while they do strength training.
During the buttermaker and ice cream maker you will not only use your core, back and arms but will improve the whole body tension and your coordination as well, so these have more benefits than just building strength and muscle.

I’ve been doing the circles for 3 weeks thanks to this channel and it’s a game changer. I’ve worked out in the gym for 38 years but this is the exercise to beat the rest. What the video doesn’t mention is the calorie burn and how good this is as a intensity fat burn whilst still building upper body muscles. This is the most impressive exercise I’ve found, core strength goes off the scale compared to crunches, twists etc. thanks for the eye opener!

Great exercise. It really is not that common, I've only ever seen a couple of people doing it in the park. Just a little doubt, is the scapula retracted throughout the whole range of motion of the ice cream maker? I'm able to hold the front lever fingers pointed for approx. 15 seconds so I'll jump straight to the full ice maker.

Hi sir, I am from India(southern part) actually what I want to ask you is "do working out gives you heart attack", y I am asking this is famous people in our region or nearby died due to this... 1. Puneet Raj Kumar (famous actor) died due to cardiac arrest...recently.. 2. Gowtham Reddy (politician)... Same happened to him very recent.. and I came to know this happened to many people...they r all educated and professionals in their work... Why is this happening...working out heavy or HIIT workouts does effect heart ? Can you plz make a video on this topic through your experience...thank you.

Hi, sorry this question is not related to your video. But I am curious what you and other gymnasts use for body grooming (shaving, hair removal creme, etc). To me it seems that most gymnast have somehow almost no body hair, be it arms, legs or upper body, which for me further emphasizes their amazing physique (from a visual point of view). Could you kindly give some insight on this?

  • @GymnasticsMethod

I’m like this by default, but I don’t know what others use - if they even use something. You can see gymnats with body hair, maybe it’s just less common in this sport or I don’t know :D

It’s actually a great supplemental exercise in my opinion for the full range of motion. It helps to some extent for sure, but we can’t say it’s the best. So I think it’s good to use sometimeg if you have the prerequisites, and will have transfer effect.
