EPIC 14.1: Mika IMMONEN vs Chris MELLING - 2017 DERBY CITY CLASSIC STRAIGHT POOL FINALS

Спорт

Mika “The Iceman” Immonen, 44, an accomplished straight pool tournament winner was up against UK’s Chris Melling, 38, an experienced snooker player who’s hardly ever played straight pool. Yet, this was the FINALS match at the 2017 Derby City Classic. Did the seasoned straight pool player overpower the UK straight shooter?
Mark Wilson and John “Mr. 600” Schmidt will teach you some straight pool from the booth.

When i was a teenager, many moons ago, i used to love to sit on the rail in my local family billiards room and watch the older gentlemen play straight pool for hours on end. back then i could shoot so straight but i couldn't see a pattern to save my life, now i can't make more than three balls in a row but the patterns come to life before me, LOL Looking forward to this and thinking about my mis-spent youth. Thanks again Pat for all the streams you bring us. Tony C

There is nothing like playing a long set of straight pool in the morning at your local spot and there is nobody else there. The pool room smells so different in the morning for some reason.

I think Mr 600 should do more commentary. He seems like a natural, plus who better to comment on 14.1?

Two things: he's enthusiastic, and he stays focused on the action on the table. Two areas where many commentators are lacking.

john schmidt is a class act and a great straight pool player, but let's not get carried away. i am aware of his 600+ and all of his 400s, but nobody, including john himself, thinks he's ever been in the top five for any period of time, let alone the greatest ever. maybe crane or mosconi. from todays crowd there are better players throughout europe. i'd also put alex ahead of him, thorsten, corey deuel. the high runs in non-competitive atmospheres shows his ability, but far from makes him the best ever. i once watched shane in practice make over 500 balls with only two misses and he looked bored doing it. then he stepped up and lost 3 straight in one pocket to deuel in 45 minutes (you tube us open 2016)

@@steve-km3oo the weirdest thing about John Schdmit is that he excels more in competitive rotation and one pocket tournaments than he ever had in straight pool.

It's funny how John spent the whole match talking about how great Mika and Chris play, and how they are world class players, then they both missed ball after ball, and they each tried to give the match away to the other guy. John said you are lucky to get a 2nd shot, and they both had about 7 shots each.

I'm always surprised when professionals don't seem to know how to use follow or stop shots. So many pros try to use draw for everything.

sorry but it's just not interesting to watch rotation players moving the cue ball all over the place just to run 14 and save one for a break shot....notice I did not say playing straight pool. This isn't straight pool - this is shoot until you miss
