    I wonder how it would have acted with a hydraulic cylinder under the table, closed loop with each end plumbed together with a valve between. No pump. Close the valve after the table movement.

    I did look at hydraulic bottle jacks before deciding on a motor but I could not find one with enough travel.

    @@routercnc9517 not a jack, a regular hydraulic cylinder. They make them any size imaginable

    Oh, OK yes that would work. I already had the ballscrew and stepper motor so that was what I decided on. Hydraulic would be a good option though and plenty of power!

    Ok you mean along side the ballscrew to act as a lock and prevent backdriving. Ok yes that is an option if the mass of the table and the drilling force tries to back drive. Good suggestion thanks.
