Hey Dr Walter, my name is Daniel Hristov. High level professional athlete and multiple World Champion. 5 months ago I had a accident in the gym from explosive jump. Pain was really bad and I felt my leg weak and also pain from nerve. 5 days later I was able to walk normally. I did MRI 2 months later, but doctors didn’t find anything and they said that I have muscle inflammation. I keep training professionally and after 3 more months of consistent pain (pain was less and less every month) I visit another doctor. We did scan and he found that I have fracture only the right side of vertebrae and spondylolysis L5/S1. I feel like I can control the pain, but I am really scared about my professional career and my future. Now my pain is 1/10. My question is can the fracture heal and can I keep training professionally if I control my pain and take care of it? I am practicing Calisthenics (similar to gymnastics) Thanks in advance and all the best 🙏🏼

Hello @hristov_sw . I have never seen a spondylolysis heal as it is a distruption of the par interarticularis. Often times we find them as incidental findings, meaning the patient didn't even know they had it. Meaning, also, that they have been living with it for a very long time and therefore has not healed. If you are concerned about vertebral instabilities or how it may affect your training and professional career, you need to get a thorough examination and evaluation done and then consult with a neurosurgeon so see what your options are.
