THIS TIME IVE FOUND A 1963 FALCON / RANCHERO UTE ABANDONED IN A WRECKING YARD FOR YEARS . DRAG IT HOME TO SEE IF IT WILL RUN AND DRIVE .
IT CAME FROM THE SAME WRECKING YARD AND THE HQ WAGON FROM EP20
EP20 THIS WAGON FOUND ALONG WITH DOZENS OF CARS IN A WRECKING YARD , ITS PROBABLY THE MOST RUST FREE HQ HOLDEN IVE EVER FOUND AND IN THIS EPISODE WE GIVE IT , ITS FIRST WASH , FIRST START AND FIRST DRIVE IN PROBABLY A DECADE OR MORE. DONT FORGET TO CHECK OUT THE VIDEO OF THE WRECKING YARD WHERE WE FOR THE HQ . EP18 i come across an abandoned wrecking yard / junk yard and rescue a HQ wagon and a classic old Ek Holden but thats definitely not all we find. call it a shed / barn find or what ever you like but there is classic survivor cars everywhere, from a XB Ford falcon coupe , Monaro , Torana , a Mopar Charger ,a couple of chevy 56 / 57 , valiants , Commodore HSV clubsport even a few old jdm datsun and mitsubshi cars and much more ever a few old toyota 4x4 . So do take a look it doesn't matter if your into perfect body and paint work , patina , rust or whatever theres a bit of everything in this one for everyone. We will have a few of the cars we bought in future episodes shortly and hopefully you'll see them running and driving back on the highway after years of being parked and left to rot. cheers for watching Backshed . SO WHAT IS BACKSHED ALL ABOUT ?
WE ARE ALL ABOUT SAVING OLD CLASSIC CARS AND MODIFIYING SOME ALONG THE WAY TOO.
WE LOVE THE CLASSIC RESCUE , FIRST WASH ,FIRST START IN YEARS TYPE OF THING, GETTING OLD JUNK RUNNING AND DRIVING THEN PUT BACK ON THE ROAD AFTER YEARS OF BEING LEFT TO ROT IS WHAT WE DO.
IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOUR INTO FORD , HOLDEN , CHEVY , BIG BLOCK SMALL BLOCK OR ANYTHING IN BETWEEN WE MIGHT HAVE A VIDEO FOR YOU TO WATCH. IVE HAVE AND HAVE HAD A LOT OF CARS INCLUDING XB COUPE , XY FACLON GT , EH HOLDEN , F100 , VB COMMODORE , HQ SEDAN AND WAGON , CORTINA , VALIANT AND SO MANY MORE SO THERE IS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE. IN ON OF OUR VIDEOS I PRETTY MUCH WENT TO HEAVEN FINDING A WRECKING YARD / JUNKARD WHERE THERE WAS EVERYTHING YOU COULD DREAM OF INCLUDING A MONARO , CHARGER , VALIANT PACER , A FALCON COUPE , TORANA , CADILLAC , SOME CHEVY'S EVEN SOME JDM CARS LIKE DATSUN , NISSAN SKYLINE , MITSUBISHI SCORPION BUT IT DIDN'T STOP THERE EVEN 4X4 LIKE A HJ 45 TOYOTA LANDCRUISER AND A 60 SERIES WAGON . I REALLY HAVE NO BIAS I LOVE RESCUING THEM ALL SO DO STICK AROUND AS YOUR BOUND TO SEE SOMETHING YOU LIKE. CHEERS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WATCH . MICK

I watch all of the fancy Aussie car channels, but I get so excited when a new Back Shed episode comes up in my notifications. It truly has to be my favourite. You truly are a living legend Mick and love your love for all old Aussie cars, especially those that have been left for dead by others. The Falcon Ute is beutiful and you're right, a sweet little 289 Windsor in her would just be the best. Keep up the awesome work, mate. I look forward to the next episode.

I come from this generation, used to sell them in fact right from the very first Falcon, the XL had a beefed front end suspension, I still remember the name of my first customer. From this generation the XM was my favourite model, having a tighter and better handling body, the Ford slogan of the time was 'Certified Golden Quality' amazing for me to find your channel, as I now live so far away from OZ..... Thanks!

The reason you have vacuum lines going to the fuel pump is , the car has vacuum accessories like windshield wipers and HVAC that is vacuum operated on a lot of them and the fuel pump makes more consistent vacuum than the engine does ! I hope this helps you in the future and I look forward to seeing more of your shows 😊

Hey Mick. You know, I'm no Ford bloke, but boy would I have jumped at that one myself had I been there and seen it. Reason being that - as you said - she was so complete (and untouched) under the bonnet and the lower half of the car was so well intact and obviously not full of poo, so she was obviously a bloody good contender and well worth giving a second chance at life. I'm also a sucker for that era Falcon with their rounded nose, little fins, body lines and the shiny dress mouldings that just highlighted them. I love the dual-circle tail lights as well, although that XL has a bit of a Marty Feldman thing going on, eh! I much prefer that generation over the XR to XY era as the earlier ones had more detail, but that 2nd generation had some good lookers amongst them too. She's a great little project, mate - and I commend you chucking them modern seats as far from it as you can! I reckon even my 5'9" frame would have had trouble squeezing in there. Modern seats are good if the look fits and they are generally better at holding you in one place, but those didn't suit and it's pointless having seats that won't let you get in and drive the beast, eh. If that little six is still strong - and it seems like it is - it seems a bit of a waste to me to pull it and sit it to one side in favour of a wee eight. Sure, a 260 / 289 / 302 would give it the right sound for those wheels and make it more appealing to a wider group of people to maybe sell it to, but that ol' 170 cube six and three-on-the-tree seems more fitting to me because it still works so well.....albeit with a noisy thrust bearing. Reckon she'd stand a cam swap and a bigger carbie just to liven her up a bit??! (As a side note, I had a noisy thrust bearing in a car that had sat for years too. When it was making the noise, the car used to be difficult to select gears and would creep while in gear and the clutch fully depressed. After a couple of thousand miles, it shut up for about 90% of the time and after 5000 miles it made no sound at all....and yes, things still worked as they should. A mate of mine had been harping on at me to change it, but I did 30,000 miles in that thing without a problem before I sold it. My advice is to give it a bit and see if she shuts up on her own. What's the worst that can happen?) Looking forward to seeing more on this old girl when things come together to make it possible. All the best.

This video was a revelation to watch. Just goes to show that you can bring something classic back to life when it seemed well and truly dead sitting in that car boneyard. You are really doing a great service in resurrecting these tarnished gems. And that trick with the starter motor...you wouldn't believe it...I had to try for the first time on my XD this morning when it decided not to turn over. I used to do it years ago on an XC so I gave it a shot. Started straight away! And a few hours later here you are explaining it to the viewers😀

Wow, just discovered your channel, i have some watching to do now... Nice Falcon, last year i pulled an 1968 xt Ford Falcon ute out of the scrub from a friends station. 3 hours of towing through the malley scrub at 60km/hour and i hit bitumen. Farmers used to take the radiators out, as in the scrub that is the first thing stolen. 3 days later the farmer dropped off the radiator and told me it was running around 20 years ago. My XT ute is in a very similar condition to yours but has a few bullet holes and a roo shooting platform. I am tempted to get it roadworthy again with a scrub and maybe a clear coat to retain the patina. I am now so inspired!!!

Mate. Enjoy the channel and you have some great tips. How do you degas the fuel tank for welding ? Interesting about the acid to get rid of rust.. Those old Ford sixes are the bomb. Me mum had a the XM 170 Super Pursuit and a mate the 144 in a wagon. Solid lifters, no syncro on first. 5 turns lock to lock on the huge steering wheel. Good brakes. Those donks will not die. Get into it. That motor will come up sweet with a good flogging. Exhaust manifold cast as part of the head stopped them getting molested. Never as smooth as a Holden red, as you noticed. But. I have to confess. I was watching you trying to get and keep it running. I was thinking.... Why is he not using the choke? It seemed to be connected. Sorry, but I was shouting at the screen. Use the choke, use the choke !!! 🙂 Yep.. .the clutch is knackered. Starter a bit sad. But I like those wheels. Windsor in those have been done. I reckon a bit of rust repairs and a bit of paint and she would be a great shop truck. On a fine day. Those vacuum wipers get old very quickly. I think the later models had electric ones? Retro fit? Anyway... enjoy the channel, and it good to see some old tin get back on the road.

Cheers mate I appreciate ya watching As far as degas mate I generally acid first then water then weld but this one I just flushed water then started cutting because it was that bad the acid wouldn’t have stayed in it long enough to clean it hahah . As for the choke yeah I guess I could have used it by disconnecting the cable ( cable seized) but it was a 30degree day and I was probably more watching the lack of accelerator squirter and the vac leaks but hey that’s what happened on the day hahah🍺👍

My first car was a 63 XL Falcon with a 170Pursuit motor. It was about 10 years old when I got it. When you wondered what that second vacuum line was for I was trying to tell you “ for the wipers”. I remember when driving in the rain if you put your foot down the wipers would nearly stop and as soon as you took you foot of the accelerator the wipers would go mad fast 😂😂. My sedan was the same blue with a white top , was a great first car, I graduated to a 68’ Monaro GTS after that . Thanks for the memories. Look forward to seeing what you do with it .

Nice Ranchero/Falcon. My father drove a 63 for decades. Interesting the styling and design from the USA version differ. Fenders like a 60-61 USA, doors look shorter, like they are front doors from a four door model, the USA version used the doors from a two door. Taller lip around the cargo bed area and a much wider C-Pillar..

@@backshed5295 As others have mentioned, the tank for the USA version is different. If you cannot find an Aussy version, and must repair your own the way you described or just patching I also suggest as others have mentioned , use fuel tank liner. I used to own a radiator shop and fuel tank repairs were also a daily thing. Patch, clean with acid then line. Your tank would take a quart. We poured them in the tank after prepping and patching and continually rotated and flipped the tank to coat the complete interior surface, than drain the excess back out of the neck back into the can . I do know that the only brands that lasted were red liner material, the black liner material always came apart. Good Luck!
