Ep 18 HQ HOLDEN CLASSIC FIND +XB FALCON COUPE , MONARO , TORANA MOPAR CHARGER + WRECKING YARD RESCUE

In this episode i come across an abandoned wrecking yard / junk yard and rescue a HQ wagon and a classic old Ek Holden but thats definitely not all we find. call it a shed / barn find or what ever you like but there is classic survivor cars everywhere, from a XB Ford falcon coupe , Monaro , Torana , a Mopar Charger ,a couple of chevy 56 / 57 , valiants , Commodore HSV clubsport even a few old jdm datsun and mitsubshi cars and much more ever a few old toyota 4x4 . So do take a look it doesn't matter if your into perfect body and paint work , patina , rust or whatever theres a bit of everything in this one for everyone. We will have a few of the cars we bought in future episodes shortly and hopefully you'll see them running and driving back on the highway after years of being parked and left to rot. cheers for watching Backshed .

1st ever car was a rare HR Premier. 186S, extractors,, discs, 4 speed, LSD, console with tacho, metallic paint, black interior all from factory. I drove it until it fell to bits. Could try to make another.

Mate,I used to love rooting around those big wrecking yards as a kid,all wide eyed and saying "Wow!!" a lot, finding the diamonds amongst the stones..... Kinda makes me sad now though, with Holden and Ford both gone and all those cars,no matter what make or model, have one thing in common- they were all loved by someone at some time.Great to see some of that coming back for a lucky few. Being an 8 pot man,the HJ GTS would have drawn me like a seagull on a chip.

So good to see such places still exist, my first car, XK Falcon ($200) I had so much fun just going to a wrecker and grabbing Pursuit badges, various dashboards to 'upgrade' to an XL, springs hinges for the hood, even the chrome Falcons hood ornaments etc, all in plentiful supply and going for a few dollars. Such stories are common I imagine, but this reminded me of those times. Thanks for sharing.

My childhood to my youth was in that place from the late 50’s to the early 80’s. I remember when the roads were full of those cars and one day, like everyone else you realise they are all gone. Oh hindsight! I wouldn’t know where or how to start to restore them, so jealous of your skills. Enjoyed the video, thanks to you and others that save them. Brings me joy to see one of the old big 3 on the road. Was even happy to see the Sigma, another important part of Australian manufacturing history.

Bloody beauty, mate! It's fantastic that you tripped over that place before it all disappeared like so many of them have. I saw an Austin A50 and a Mitsubishi Sapporo - both of which I've owned before and loved them for different reasons and you just don't see many on the road or in junkyards even any more. A few old Commys that are just starting to become sought after too - again, most of which I have owned over the years, so great for nostalgia. Like you, I'm like a pig in mud when walking around similar yards because I see models I've owned or always wanted to own and every car is a potential project until I start looking at them with my second self's practical eye and built-in calculator. That green EK - mate, what a find! She's another beaut, that one. Looks to be mostly maintenance (hydraulics and other items you'd usually go through on a rebuild anyway under the bonnet) and interior trim that needs the hard yards and that HQ wagon is a diamond in the rough, but strong bones by the looks - another great score. Over here in Kiwiland, all the yards with old stuff have gone except the more rural or famous ones like Horopito Motors (of Smash Palace fame) and in the main cities there's nothing except modern yards that won't sell you a whole car because they make too much off selling the individual pieces. There was a late model Triumph 2500S and a 79 Mini that appeared recently in one - both in good enough nick to be put back on the road with little work - that got stripped bare and eventually crushed. Now THAT'S a total waste.....although I suppose the parts went to help restore others or keep them on the road, so maybe not so much total as just a waste of good classics. To find old metal like Holden, Ford or Chrysler, you got to go out of the main centres though and it's mostly people who have collected or hoarded them over the years that have them in private "collections" in rural yards and so only word of mouth (sometimes by talking to locals) that you hear about them actually being there. Glad you showed us though and will look forward to seeing them come good as you get the time to bring 'em back. On the weather - yeah, loving this summer of warm rain. All it does is make the grass grow longer and the humidity hit in the high 90s. Just what you need for working outside with a welder, eh..... All the best.

Our family had a HQ, 202 in a burnished copper type of colour. We used it for everything, but what makes me wince now is that we used to back the boat into the saltwater. Hosed it out when we got home, but you never really get it all. Car is long gone, replaced with a short wheel based patrol, but I doubt its still around. Would have dissolved by now.

It does not matter if it is here in the States, or where you are in Australia, if you are a car guy, its fun to go through a wrecking yard to see what treasures they hold. In one of the scenes you caught was a 1962 Ford Galaxie convert. Wowsers! I love '62, '63, and '64 Galaxies. It looks like you have picked up some good cars to work with.
