EP25 HQ HOLDEN FIND , FROM ABANDONED FOR YEARS TO BIG BLOCK CHEV ENGINE SWAP AND BURNOUTS . MUCUS HQ
We found this HQ abandoned in a dirt floor shed with no motor or transmission so i wanted to do something different with this one Roadkill style.. In the first episode we gave it a first wash but with no engine it wasn't a Will it run type of video, i swapped a big block chev and th400 into it and made it run that way. This episode its all about driving it. full front end rebuild and fit a 9" ford diff , new brake lines etc and more.
check out Episode 18
In this episode i come across an abandoned wrecking yard / junk yard and rescue a HQ wagon and a classic old Ek Holden but thats definitely not all we find. call it a shed / barn find or what ever you like but there is classic survivor cars everywhere, from a XB Ford falcon coupe , Monaro , Torana , a Mopar Charger ,a couple of chevy 56 / 57 , valiants , Commodore HSV clubsport even a few old jdm datsun and mitsubshi cars and much more ever a few old toyota 4x4 . So do take a look it doesn't matter if your into perfect body and paint work , patina , rust or whatever theres a bit of everything in this one for everyone. We will have a few of the cars we bought in future episodes shortly and hopefully you'll see them running and driving back on the highway after years of being parked and left to rot. cheers for watching Backshed .

At last! Something good to watch!! Honestly there is so much content out there and the makers of it are well meaning but almost devoid of personality - that’s what sets you apart mate! You are actually present in front of the camera. I haven’t finished watching yet but I’m sure it’s going to be good.

The old Qs i remember when they first came out the old man bought a new kingswood wagon on the NZ dealers tour to see them introduced, first HQ wagon in Nz was in our driveway you could ride around all day in it and not see another HQ in a few months they were everywhere, simple cars to fix when they broke I owned 7 in Aussie mostly vans for traveling, they were cheap to buy and disposable when they stopped,

I really enjoy watching you fixing up the old Holdens, Mick. They are very close to my heart as, 50 years ago I used to drive a Holden HQ pick up, re badged as a Chevy El Camino, in South Africa. We were doing power line patrols and surveys all over the republic. I have aways thought of these Holdens as beautiful vehicles.

An informative and interesting film. A much better reality tv show than anything Motor Trend TV does. All they want to do is hurry to the end results. The “Heap” is coming along nicely. I know there is more coming so, as you say, Mick, “Let’s get into it”! I’d say make your films longer, but I know you gotta work for a living, as well.

ya wouldn't ever guess by looking at my '97 Tacoma. But everything from underneath the Hood to all four wheels is basically restored, rebuilt (by my hands) or brand new. The truck was wreaked & a large hole thru the block when I bought it. Runs & drives better than most newer disposable vehicles. All the best vehicles were made before 2000.

Haha the old "use the drum as an axle puller" trick. My LH SLR 5000 had a drum banjo and just before the spider gears would blow apart, the axle splines would twist a little. So the drum trick always came in handy. In the end I could change a centre in it in about 40 minutes. The problem was solved when I traded it in for an LX A9X torrie which had the bigger 10 bolt. But if we are going to talk about tall gearing, My A9X had a 2.6 to 1 ratio out the factory. Why that was the case I never knew. Great video. Nice to see people saving these old girls. I shudder to think how many pretty solid hq's we sent to the tip in the 80s. 😢

Hi, loving the videos. I once spent a horrible afternoon at the eye and ear hospital getting my eye scraped after drilling under a car without safety glasses, especially after the steel started rusting. Can you let people know its super important to wear them and grab some when your drilling next time. People are learning from your videos so maybe you will get to save someone from the same experience and possibly even save their sight. I do love old Holdens, especially with a V8.
