EP18 - Barramundi - Spearfishing Barramundi tips and tricks. Spearing the coast of Mackay QLD

Спорт

After having a bad run of weather for the last few months I found myself going through a heap of my saved footage. I realised I was sitting on quite a bit of Barramundi footage from spearing the coast of Mackay QLD . In this latest episode I run through a few tricks I have learnt from more experienced divers. It's a bit of a Barramundi how to, along with some Barra how not to.....I also finally work out how I lost a monster barra from last year. There is some older footage some of which has been in some of my older videos, there is heap of unseen footage as well. I hope you enjoy, be careful Spearfishing Barramundi is very adictive 🍻

I tested these pinned shafts about 18 years ago and broke all 5 in the furthest forward pin. I only use shark fin tabs for all of my guns. Superior in every conceivable way. Stronger and the welded tabs reduce the shaft harmonics so they shoot flatter with comparable shafts. Great video and happy hunting.

That’s some good info to know. Logic says it has to be weaker there with a hole all the way through the shaft. What you said about the shark fin tabs is interesting and also makes sense. I’ve got all notched shafts at the moment, maybe I should switch it up to shark fin tabs on my next shaft order?

I have found coral trout, gold spot cod and maori wrasse back when we could take will sulk if you loose off the spear. Coral trout that sulk in holding tanks of live trout exporters actually die from skin ulcers when stressed.

It was a Rob Allen 7.5mm with the loading tabs. It broke on one of the little round tabs. In RA defence that shaft shot a lot of fish including some decent Barra, Spanish, Grey Mackeral, Jacks etc. It did a heap of work it just failed at a really bad time haha.

@@ExhaleAdventures I noticed the fish was shiot while quatering toward you , this will alswy put the load on the shaft at an angle likely to put more bending stress on thshaft and welded or cut areas of a shaft are stress raisors that will initiate a break when heavily loaded on these angles, of course if you wait until the fish is quatering away you may miss a lot of opportunities to get a fish so most of us will still take a shot on the angle you did.

@@APpoacher thanks for the comment mate. In fairness to that shaft it speared a lot of fish, from Mackerel and Tuskies to Jacks and Barra. I’ve just had the same style shaft snap a loading tab. Might be time for a change I think.

When I first started diving I was that keen it didn't worry me I just wanted to dive. If I havent been out for while (like now) and I head out into some dirty water i'll start getting 'worried thoughts'. I can generaly put them aside and carry on. Sometimes Its harder to push the thoughts aside, like a feeling of being watched, those days I just get out and change spots.
