As an American living in London for a few years in the late 70s, I couldn't afford the Tube and travelled mostly by bus. Anyway, there was no other practical way to get from Waterloo, where I lived, to where I worked in Bermondsey. Riding the buses gave me a perspective on London and its geography that riding the Tube all the time never could have. I love the vintage double-deckers, and always grabbed the upstairs front seat whenever I could!

I saw the bus on the Ipcres File over last weekend and watched it intently. Just one little problem, the conductor had the wrong type of ticket machine. Living in Kent and working in London, I can remember the machines for London and Kent. The machine used in the clip was one used in the provinces not London. The bus looked really great though. Take a look. I used Route 37 between Dulwich and Brixton regularly using RML buses 1966 JJD 4nnD vintage etc. I love all of your episodes, brings back memories, keep them coming.

As usual a really great video. The explanation of what had to be undertaken was great. It would have been very helpful to explain how you managed to get the driver’s window out of the cab and telling us what tools were used to execute the job. Again it would have been beneficial if the glazier explained how he reinserted the window again showing what tools were used. Really look forward to your videos. A lot of interested viewers who are not mechanics would appreciate a better explanation of all the tasks you undertake.

Hi Ian, excellent constructive comments, thank you. Will take these onboard going forward. To answer your queries, the old rubber was simply cut with out with a stanly knife, once you have cut enough rubber away the glass simply slides out. I'm not sure what tools the glazer used when the glass was refitted, but next time we book him I will make sure he explains what he is doing.

Good question, these buses were not fitted with an odometer so its impossible to say for sure. Plus don't forget at overhaul the engines would have been removed from the body and fitted to a different bus once repaired. That said it is estimated that these buses have each done over 1.5 million miles during their service life. Nowadays they only do 1000 - 1500 miles a year with us, so a fraction for what they used to do.
