Ep08: Clough42 Electronic Leadscrew | First test . . . problems
Ғылым және технология
Getting the leadscrew pulley installed and testing the system.
Did not go well due to reversed Dupont connectors . . .
. . . but bonus deep dive into encoders and how they work!

Watched the whole series and what an amazing effort with such diligence! You will see it through I have no doubts...

Agreed, I always want to know why something doesn't work as intended!
Great series of videos. I’m doing this exact project at the moment but with nowhere near as much success as you! I spin my encoder, see RPM, but the stepper doesnt spin. No idea why. Your videos have really helped me get to where I am though, so thank you.

In one of the earlier videos I showed how to check the stepper motor and driver in isolation by tapping 5V onto the step pin. So you can check that part of the system at least. Good luck with it!
How come I can search and search for good content and only come across stuff by accident! Like the channel. I was a big fan of Clough42 and have the ELS waiting to go, but sadly he's now got a bit over the top with huge machines and also started plugging stuff that's been gifted which has put me right off.

Well, you made here in the end which is all that matters! I have a CNC machine build and electric go-kart build series if that interests you. I hear you with James' channel but maybe he deserves a bit of that? I've looked through the ELS code and the level of knowledge and D&D needed to get it all to work is impressive. He sold over 1500 ELS kits so if he made $10 to $20 per kit (?) that could easily be re-invested in all those cool toys. But on the downside it makes it more difficult for the average machinist viewer to relate to, so there is that. Anyway welcome to the channel!
Ouch, sorry about the encoder. Amazed that the npn got wrecked by a 5v line.

Yes, they are sensitive to that unfortunately. Anyway, if that is the only error on the project then I'll go with that!
I suggest polarity marking both the DuPont connectors and the pcb/socket. Red nail varnish works well.

@@routercnc9517 yeah but you two together! 🧠
If your supplier lets you down or are desperate, I have a spare you can have and replace. I bought a spare because thats just the sort of thing that happens to me!

Wow thank you for that kind offer! Luckily it arrived last night so onwards!
Bad luck, so easily done. The whole thing is looking good, though.
