Enjoyed watching your vids over the last couple of days! One thing i'd do is get an underback/grant to gravity fill from your mash tank, then pump into the copper. It'll extend the pump life and if you get a stuck mash the pump wont pull the false bottom down, knackering it.

Good advice. So far no stuck mash but certainly if the pump is too fast I pull 'flour' through the mesh. Will be looking at this. Cheers!

Looked like a pro until 25 minutes in. Think it went pretty well considering you’ve not used the equipment many times. Congratulations on the first batch selling out it’s obviously a great beer cheers 👍🍻

Wow! what a day that must have been. 2nd brew will probably turn out the best but you won't want to repeat the process. Anyway, good recovery & I bet you wont make that mistake again. 👍

I’ve got a similar refractometer and on mine it’s got 20c at the top as the calibration temp. When I take a sample at 67c I use the tool in Brewfather to adjust the reading. 👍

One drip at 65c cools very fast once on the lens. You can see the reading change over about 10 swconds.

Love it! I feel like I'm there with you with all the manic 'think on your feet' moments that can happen on a brewday. You're bound to get more efficient in terms of time after the first few brews. Makes me look forward to knocking out a pale ale on Wednesday (on a slightly smaller scale!).

@@FourPriestsBrewery Whatever I have in the garage to use up. I get Maris Otter delivered from The Malt Miller 25kg at a time. So I'll use that as the only grain and whatever English hops I still have in the freezer. It's time to use stuff up in between more ambitious styles!

Cheers Andy, I use a bit of Talus hop here in NZ for our breweries IPA, it's really different.. kinda woody. And I also do double brew days on our kit, we have a 3.5 barrel kit and I pitch to 8 barrel tanks so a brew day for me starts at 5am and I finish at 8pm.. yep a 15 to 16 hour day but.... its for beer so it's ok 👍😁 cheers Mate keep up the good work 🍻🍻

Hi Andy - absolutely loving the videos so far and feel many of the home brewers watching will have experienced those chaotic brew days but glad you pulled it out the bag! Re the flow meter - are they calibrated or have facility to calibrate? Do they compensate for water temp? Great effort on the startup, really inspiring stuff!

Crewe is 10 minutes away. I was kidding really with the apology as a couple of people outed me :) That spare mash tun that makes an appearance sometimes by my roller door is from Tom’s Tap in Crewe, run by Sean Ayling who helped me get started with great advice. Thanks for watching!

Those of us who remember actual 'old money', pre-decimilisation, will point out that an old penny was a fair bit larger than a 'threepenny bit', a sixpence, a shilling (5p) and a two shilling (10p) coin, to name but four examples. But then we DID sort it out. Then again a pound coin is larger than a 50p piece. I'll get me coat.

Yeah, but.... all our silver coins increase in weight from the lowest denomination to the highest. Apart from the 20p but that's not even a real coin.... And don't come back with '2p weighs more than 5p and 10p'. Who even has 1p and 2p coins now apart from in a big whisky bottle. :)
