Ep. 2/4 - DISCOVER RIMAC TODAY: FACTORY TOUR with Mate Rimac - C_TWO Assembly
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In 2011 Mate Rimac emerged from the garage, and decided to take his one-man-band show on an intense journey. Today, we are a 550+ people team in several locations, growing further strongly. Mate's dream was to show the potential of electric drivetrains and to build the world's most powerful electric hypercar. That is exactly what Rimac is doing today.
In less than 10 years, Rimac grew into an electric hypercar manufacturer, and a go-to address when it comes to high-performance electrification technology, supplying to some of the biggest names in the industry: Hyundai, Porsche, Aston Martin, Koenigsegg, Automobili Pininfarina and more. The company is vertically integrated with many of the components produced in house, what makes a walk through our facilities fascinating.
00:18 Composites Production - Carbon Fiber
5:21 Paintshop
6:17 Battery Assembly
8:58 Components and Battery Testing and Dyno
11:53 C_TWO and Concept_One Assembly
Follow the series of 4 episodes in which Mate thoroughly takes us through Rimac facilities as they are today, or were back a month ago when this was filmed. The pace of growth at Rimac is hard to keep up with - and as we write and share this, half of the production has already moved to a new facility. In episode 2 we take you through our composites production and paintshop, battery assembly and testing and the place where everything comes together: vehicle assembly.
The next challenge is to grow from a low volume manufacturer of complex high-end electrification components, to an established Tier-1 supplier for the industry. In the new facilities that are currently under way, Rimac is planning new high volume production lines for battery packs, powertrain systems and the C_Two hypercar production starting in 2020.

This is such a great series. It's like watching Ferdinand Porsche, Colin Chapman, or Enzo Ferrari showing off his young company. It's so fun to be able to witness this as it happens. Keep up the great work Mate and team!
This is Formula Student to the n power and professional. A relatively small team, making everything themselves, evolving from a tubular space frame to a carbon monocoque, the CEO (team captain) knowing every bit of the car... This is the dream job for many engineers

Motivated people tend to be lower cost per unit of work. Often by a massive margin, even if you need to pay more to retain them. But it does tend to be a lot of effort to find them and ensure they’re retained.

Truly incredible what you all have acheived in such a short span of time. It’s clear that the EV world just moves at a totally different time frame from traditional car design and manufacturing. Also wanted to say that it’s wonderful to see such diversity in your workforce, that is a needed and welcome element in our modern world.
This looks so nice. Love your work. btw: 13:23 Cupra E-Racer in background
Mate Rimac, Thank you for a wonderful insight in your company, very appreciated. I see you had a great vision and made it real, this is the most admirable thing, especially when it comes down to a personal passion, level of complexity and values for the world. I am going to visit you for a company tour soon, to learn more informations for eVTOL start-up from my garage ;)
I’m blown away by the combination of a few factors that clearly show in these videos. How can a start-up that basically started in a garage, grow in the time span of 10 years to a company with such a level of in-depth knowledge, not just on a specific set of subject matters, but across the entire range of everything involved to make a car, where it surpasses companies like Porsche and Tesla in some areas? And that in a country not known for car manufacturing or production in general? And on top of that, the founder / CEO is not an absolute dick who either bullies his employees like Steve Jobs or squashes the competition by outpricing them or simply buying them to kill the competing innovations like Bill Gates? There’s not a single obvious factor to point at why this company would flourish, or even succeed at all. And then to see how this results in a bafflingly high quality product that’s entirely “home made”.... I have no words for this, I’m extremely impressed. Those software wimps in Silicon Valley don’t know what true innovation and high quality productivity is.

Mr Rimac all the time we heard about this famous "breakthrought" in battery technology being solid state or other with far superior energy density of current cells (250Wh/kg aprox now afaik. And aprox 500Wh/kg is what we could be getting). My question is how far do you believe are we from this breakthrought to became a production reality?
Kad se setim onog BMW-a pre mnogo godina, koji je isao brze od Tesle u to vreme ...svaka cast na trudu, upornosti..isplatilo se.
Absolutely love what you are doing there. Hope to see those running an air-electric hybrid system one day!

I suggest you guys conduct a review of the manufacturing and assembly process to improve workplace ergonomics in order to avoid placing the workers in posturally compromised positions (e.g hunched over like the woman at 1:15 and 2:30). This is important to avoid workplace injuries and downtime, and increase worker productivity and well being. Some of the changes might include adjustable height work surfaces, work surfaces designed specifically for a part of the manufacturing process, redesigned carbon fiber moulding tools and mounts for said tools that place the parts in positions that are safer and more efficient to work on. Love what you guys are doing.

It really is awesome to see one of the most exciting car companies out there establishing itself so quickly out of a country that has basically zero automotive history. When my mom grew up outside of Zadar no one even owned a car, and now within the space of 10 years Croatia has a car company every single enthusiast knows about. Keep pushing harder! I'm very impressed of your success already. These videos are awesome. We need more innovation to get the most out of everything. What if your prepreg assembly was done by automated robot in complete vacuum? Get somebody to create sim for that robot and you will be surprised. That prepreg must have some "overhead" to count the air etc. in the mix. I'd say atleast 10% difference in weight and benefit in full with strength. Also the AC unit which is heatpump operated should have some level of heat recovery / cool recovery rather than push-type fan system. How can i send my possible invention regarding this?

Are any of the things you are developing trickling down into common production cars (through partnerships with the "big" manufacturers for example)? I like any EV, but developing purely for supercars feels like a bit of a waste of resources, since it is only for so few people.
What about the repairability of the monocoque? For example in racing or on normal street use a hair-line crack can occur, would that just mean that you can throw away almost the whole car? Edit: please don't see this as an insult.
