Ep 13 : Transport, Power and Super coolant : Oxygen not included Spaced out

So much to do. We want to start mining asteroids straight away but for that we need Oxylite. That requires a new SPOM so lets get transport sorted first as the travel times are already to long. Of course we also need to improve our power so solar time and a power monitor.

    Graphite is at the bottom of your ocean asteroid. The tree is for isoresin, and it's on a different rock. The amount of graphite at the bottom of the ocean rock is just silly when it comes to fullerene conversion and super coolant production.

    @@FrancisJohnYT Range is only determined by fuel, so with other rockets you can do things with fuel tanks. Hydrogen rockets also have a greater rocket height than nuclear (same as petroleum). So you can run a cargo module *and* a gas tank. Which means you don't need to go back to oxylite. And they produce a lot of internal power. And to think people said that solar trivializes all power and that you don't even need nuclear.

    Gaseous carbon dioxide can get deleted by the carbon skimmer, a loop with a water sieve which produces polluted dirt. Continuing the previous mentioned theme, polluted dirt can get refined into coal by sage hatches and coal can get transformed into refined carbon and then you can get diamond, or at least recover some of that drill cone cost. Also, polluted dirt can offgas polluted oxygen up to it's pressure limit, and even better is a simple *mobile* source of polluted oxygen for no power once you have it. If digging down on a new asteroid, getting enough polluted dirt into a drop pit can mean that the duplicants have a power free way of staying low in the drop pit without needing to run up when hyper ventiating (note I've noticed this effect on Rime with slime... polluted dirt should have the same effect). Pokeshells eat polluted dirt for their molt for more lime, and I guess if you wanted more more mealwood grown, that polluted dirt can get transformed into dirt, even with the drawbacks of composting. Also, if one can control the pressure increase coming from polluted dirt offgasing polluted oxygen or don't excessive pressure with duplicants who don't experience stress or don't mind stressing them out or putting them on massage tables, if you have enough carbon dioxide, the water sieve enables theoretically a completely sustainable base without a heat producing electrolyzer. And there's less need to get into cooling if you have a system that doesn't make as much heat. At least if multiple carbon skimmers is still less heat producing than an electrolyzer system. Such a base would also need less water. Duplicants can still breathe polluted oxygen, and if wanting oxygen, there still exists a lot of materials to crush to sand. Massive amounts of polluted dirt could also enable massive amounts of ceramic. Maybe, and I haven't tried this, even with several kilns inside of cool steam vent box with crude oil and temp shift plates to make it so that the cool steam vent produces hot enough steam to get a steam turbine to run often at only the power cost of making the clay and the coal. Edit: I guess you could make only refined carbon in such a system. So, the polluted dirt could get used to make coal via sage hatches, and then refined carbon for heat in a cool steam vent box, and the refined carbon for diamond. In a power positive way. Bigger question is how fast it would cause the steam to heat for a steam turbine to run, unless there's enough transference from weak insulation I guess.

    You can select empty storage on the rockets tanks. Gives you gasses or liquids in bottles, don't even have to wait for a dupe to do it. You can add as many conveyor unloaders as you want for speedy unloading. Any resource you don't have storage room for wastes diamonds, so 82% liquid/gas and 18% uranium, you'd only get 18% of 20 tons uranium or 3.6 tons of uranium from a radioactive cloud, regardless of if you have room for gasses and liquids. I was very sad when I didn't get my 20 tons of uranium ore : Also yes, the heat deletion bug was fixed a *long* time ago. Good thing too, the method people used to get around introduced a mass deletion bug and slowly drained out all the steam.

    You know what would be really cool? A completely self-sustainable Spacefarer Module design. I've got a few idea how it could be done, but I don't have time to test them because of university and stuff. I'm wondering if it's possible to let a dupe breathe by combining gasping mechanism, a outhouse and a sublimation station. I know in the tests I did last year I found that gasping to save air worked better with po2 than with o2: the dupe is capable to gasp with lower pressure for some unknown reason. For food, maybe vole ranching can work. Using Pixel pack as decors might be enough to keep moral high.

  • @Tamizushi

    I think a single wild arbor tree and a few pips would work. The pips can provide the calories needed for the dupe to survive. They would also provide the dirt for the outhouse without need for composting. If the Dupe's schedule is on "shower time" most of the time, they should poop twice a day producing 39.4kg of polluted dirt per day (more when they get food poisoning). That's enough for 26 kg of pO2 per day with a sublimation station, exactly 1/3 what a dupe needs to stay alive without gasping (if you count the penalty for breathing pO2). If you add automation to the sublimation station, you could ration the pO2 to exploit the gasping mechanics which should be enough to make up for the rest.

  • @FrancisJohnYT

    @FrancisJohnYT

    3 жыл бұрын

    I'm gonna have to disagree with you on the dense Puft front, if you start it early enough you can get more oxalite than you will ever use, but that's with the base game. Furthermore, your gonna produce more Oxygen than you can use so may as well turn it into oxalite and a bit of meat with just about no power input.

  • @themadman5615

    @themadman5615

    Well, now that I think about it, with the DLC oxalite is the best way to transport large quantities of Oxygen. So you might need three or four farms to get enough oxalite, which would require quite a bit of time and effort. Which, for the DLC, Puft farms are just too slow and time consuming to be of any real significance, my apologies for my earlier claim made in ignorance.

    I did some testing on it. The tree attacks duplicants but not critters. It converts any type of food dropped on the five tile space that it's in. It converts kcal of food to kg of resin in a 2:1 ratio (it needs to be full first to drip the resin). The best food to feed it depends on your playstyle really but if your asking for food with the highest kcal then the best is hexelent second is frost burger and no, you can't feed it duplicant. Basically it's a duplicant hating tree that eats a lot.
