    Great episode and lots of great info. Thanks for mentioning that it's not until your at a certain skill level that the caliber differences matter. I see too many people fall into the trap thinking that gear will solve all their problems. Practice will make you a better shooter and I agree that your far better shooting what you got and learning before going down the gear habit hole.

    This is interesting stuff, but for those of us that have never done a match, you're talking about all these different types of matches and weights and such and I know i have no idea what you're referring to. Would be nice if you had a link to something describing each type of match, the requirements, and maybe a comparison grid between them so folks that have never done one or even looking into it can see what these are.

    A big fan of the 4dof! One question, is there a specific reason your 0.30 library doesn't have the sub 165grains bullets in it? Apart from the Hornady (obviously) 155gr and Warner tools 155grains, both Sierra, Berger and definitely Lapua has great 155grain good range bullets. Is it just a question of "we haven't gotten to it" or more a weight cut off depending on what's more popular in long range? Not complaining, I hope they will come in time!

    I just did my first prs match with an adm uic15 in 6 arc gas gun division and had a blast, but before listening to any of this, I'm gonna go in on 6gt being best for prs. I want to build a white tiger themed bolt gun to use with the special head stamped alpha brass. If you don't understand why look up the nick name for the 6gt cartridge. The thing I'm not sure about is which custom action and which chassis to go with.

    @20020x those are definitely on my list. I think the foundation is a bit advanced for my skill level and also not worth painting in the white tiger stripe. I'm currently looking at impact and bat machine actions. Preferably something in the 700 footprint with integral recoil lug and rail with the ability to use prefit barrels.

    I have a question, and it's based purely out of ignorance than anything else, but wanting to understand..... How practicle is a .308win for PRS shooting?

  • @milesn3173

    @milesn3173

    2 ай бұрын

    .308 is a great training cartridge because it forces you to learn how to read wind to score hits. In the "Open" division you're going to struggle going up against guys shooting 6-6.5mm projectiles. The significantly lower drag of those bullets means significantly less wind effects, along with less recoil and flatter trajectories overall, those guys are going to have an easier time hitting targets. That said, there is a "tactical" division that is ONLY .223/5.56 or .308, with some limitations on bullet weight and muzzle velocity that puts you in you against others on a similar playing field within the division.

    So, what distances do you shoot PRS? With all the custom rigs and beings able to fine tune your loads. Then caliber choice is less important than skill.

    Hornsby I just want to let you guys know there are some quality control issues with you ammo. I was at the range the other weekend and I could not even chamber some of your factory .308 178 bthp match ammo. This is dangerous for the shooter who is just coming in to shooting and not knowing about bullets, but you all need to see what’s going on with your ammo cause right now the match and superformance shoots like trash.

    Hey Hornady, I just bought one of your reloading deluxe kits and maybe your tool room boys should start checking the inferior shell holders that should have been reamed instead of the back wood's process on the id so it will work with the hand held priming tool , unacceptable unacceptable, and where are my so called free bullets, excuse my rudeness, retired tool&die maker,Q C either makes or break's ever company on the planet....

    When the 7mm PRC was first introduced, the velocity specifications were set using several high-performance propellants that were readily available at the time. As most of you are aware, there is a world-wide propellant shortage. As such, we’ve been forced to find alternative propellants. When choosing a substitute powder, we focus on accuracy, consistent ignition, and temperature stability. A new propellant option met our criteria and, more importantly, is available, however it often doesn’t achieve the original velocity specifications. With this reduction in velocity coupled with variation in chambers and barrels, it is possible to see 75-175 fps slower velocity from your rifle, than the velocity printed on the box. This alternative propellant solution does generate the consistency and accuracy we demand. Other substitutes did not meet those requirements; we prioritized accuracy over speed. Hornady has always encouraged shooters to test ammunition from their rifles to obtain accurate velocity data. Due to the powder shortage, everyone in the ammunition manufacturing sector is faced with choosing between loading ammunition slower than originally specified, or simply not loading ammo at all. This temporary powder solution has allowed us to continue to produce and ship ammunition despite the powder availability concerns.
