😢😅I have completed 91.15% of the streets! Only 33 streets away from finally running every street in my city. There 3888 streets, 1991.11 miles of streets in Wichita. I started at 3% in May of 2021. The closest person behind me, in 2nd place, is at 71%. Of the 33 remaining streets, several are just fields where streets are planned to be, a couple are in a gated community that I've not found open in the last 3 years and 2 are way the heck out in country.. I have to figure out a way to get the final few red dots, then will run the final 7 mile route in the center of the city, finishing at our downtown arena.😅 0:29 😢 0:31 😮😮 0:33 😅😮 0:41 😅😮 0:49 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮 0:59 😮😮Franchi momentum 65 PRC😅Franchi momentum 65 PRC🎉😢I was just looking at old photo albums and I saw the largest Northern Alberta Wtail shed I have ever had the pleasure of finding with a buddy over 20 years ago. Sadly we gave this shed away back then. If I remember correctly it scored 91-7/8 as a 7 pt. Had a 28” beam that curled right around inside itself. I personally found a 96” the next year that I still own but it is a non typ and a hard white shed. This one is world class and I feel blessed to have been given the privilege of seeing it exactly where it fell as it laid.😢😢😮😢 1:54 😮 1:56 1:57 😢

I've wanted a 280 AI ever since I read an article by Ron Spomer several years ago about his experience with the 280 AI. Then along comes the 7 PRC. Decisions decisions. That decision was made when a gentleman I work with had some Nosler brass and Redding 280 AI dies for sale. The barrel and action are currently at the gunsmith getting worked and should be in my hands within the month. Can't wait. Thank you for all the content. Very interesting.

Keep in mind, too, that Hornady's own posted velocities for 162gr 280AI load and 160gr 7PRC ae separated in velocity by a whopping 150fps. If you get the throat cut long on your Ackley, you can stuff a little more powder in while keeping the pressures at safe levels, and -easily- nudge that 150fps velocity.

The 280 was loaded down from the beginning due to the weaker action of the semi auto and the pump actions of its time. When it was first introduced in a bolt gun, the factory loads were still downloaded due to the many weaker semi and pump guns on the market. My first "high power" rifle was a Browning A Bolt in 280 Remington in the mid 80's. Handloading really makes this round shine. It still serves me well to this day.

My grandfather, a gunsmith, left me a Remington 742 in 7mm Express. I was totally unfamiliar with that cartridge or 7mm bullets in general. Once I started researching it and found that 280 ammo was available, I feel in love with the 7mm in general. Needed a bolt gun for hunting in PA, so I got a 7mm-08. Eventually got a 7RM and then did my first customer in a 7mm Sherman Short. needed a lightweight rifle for Western hunting, got a 280AI in an ultralite. Convinced myself I needed a 7PRC. I still haven't shot that one, but I do love my 7's.

The 280 is an incredible cartridge that will always be a sentimental favorite. I killed my first mulie buck, pronghorn buck, and cow elk using my uncle’s model 700 in 280 shooting 140 Partitions. Of course, as a western hunter, whose favorite big game animal is mule deer, I’ve played with having a 280 AI built so I could shoot quality 140 bullets on mulie hunts. Thanks for a great video.

I had a 280 Remington for years. It was a Winchester Featherlite. I live and hunt in Idaho. My 280 Rem took many deer both mule deer and whitetails, as well as a few elk. I reload and using 168gr Barnes TSX and TTSX bullets, I was able to get low 7 Rem Mag velocities safely. As I've aged and with two shoulder replacements, I had to stop using my magnums and my heavy loads in my 45-70. To continue elk hunting, I chose a Kimber Hunter in 280AI with a muzzle brake and good recoil pad, I was able to continue hunting elk. The fact that it is only 5-4 lbs naked allows me to hunt all day. Using Barnes 168gr TTSX and Hornady 150gr CX bullets, I get 7 Rem Mag velocities with much reduced recoil. The 280AI can take anything in North America except for the big bears. You guys at Hornady always do a great job with your videos. Just a request, could you guys make a 168gr CX bullet in 7mm?

Love my 280 AI’s. Big fan of all 7mm’s. Currently have a 7mm-08, 7x57, 7 SAUM, 280 REM, 3- 280 AI’s, 7 REM Mag, 7 RUM and 7 PRC. Out of all of the 7’s I own, I am partial to my 280 AI’s and my 7 SAUM. Running 168 and 175 gr bullets they have accounted for several Mule Deer, Whitetail, Antelope, Bear and an Elk at ranges from 60 yards to 525. I’ve been shooting 280 AI for 18 years and have been happy to see it pick up a following over the years and even a few factory rifles and factory ammo offerings that have brought more people to the table on a great cartridge!

The 280 AI is rated at 65,000 psi (transducer) in the current SAAMI tables vs 60,000 for the non-AI version. This could make a little more boost in factory ammo. In the F-Class world, the 7mm-6.5PRC wildcat which has very similar performance to the 280AI has been popular for a few years. This wildcat came out before the SAAMI version 7mm PRC was announced and had been called the 7PRC, causing some confusion. Eric Cortina has popularized that cartridge with reamers developed by Alex Wheeler of Wheeler Engineering and calls it the 7PRCW ("W" for Wheeler).

To me there is no doubt 280 is better. 280 Rem is enough for me and easier to make or find brass than the 280 AI. I’ve settled on 175gr bullets for Moose and they can work good on deer too. No such thing as over penetration, that just gives you 2 bleed holes.

When I bought my die set from Redding they requested 3 new fire-formed cases to confirm my chamber dimensions to match up their part number for the dies. When you buy a 7mm Remington magnum you can download the damn thing to the 280 Remington, or anything in between. My old BDL made in 75 is currently loaded with the Hornady 139 gr. Interlocks at a muzzle velocity of 3140. My experience using this load is one of a good 280, doesn't kick like a shave tail mule. It pokes a quarter size hole on the ribcage exit wound, and they don't take another step. I like my 280, even though it's actually a downloaded 7mm. Remington magnum.

This'll probably be overlooked, but at release the 280 was down-loaded (like Seth said) because of the platforms it was chambered in. When it was renamed, they bumped those loads up to what they are now, or so Remington claimed. Also, weight-for-weight, it depends on the bullets when determining which has a higher BC.* For instance, the 140gr .284 Nosler Accubonds and Ballistic Tips have a BC of .485, but the .277 ones are at .460 G1. However, the 150gr .277 versions of the same bullets have a very slight edge over the .284 versions (from Nosler 9). In Hornady offerings, the .277 140gr SST has a G1 of .495, and the .284 139gr SST has a BC of .486. The .277 and .284 Interbond and SST has the exact same BC of .525. For the ELD-X, the .277 145gr option has a G7 of, ironically, .270, which is less than a 150gr ELD-X in .284 at .289 (from Hornady 11). *TLDR; It just depends.

@@noahhorinek historically 7mm has had better bullet choices, but the differences you pointed out aren’t significant to me at 300 yards and in. Barnes makes a 155 grain .277 bullet with a G1 BC of 0.540 - that’s sweet! Except you need a 1:8 twist rate.

Back when the 280 Remington came out I don’t think too many people were making 400 or 500 yard shots, I think a lot more hunters gravitated towards lever action and semi automatic rifles, I think had to load the ammo a little lower pressure for those rifles and I think that hurt it.

The 280 Rem has the same SAAMI max pressure of 60,000psi (transducer) as the 30-06, so it can be used in any rifle designed for the 30-06. The 270 Win, like the 280AI are allowed 5,000 psi more. I noticed that tha Remington's semi-auto 740 and 742 were chambered in 30-06 and 280 but not 270, but I don't know if it was just marketing or whether they were not designed for the slightly higher chamber pressures. A newer model, the 7400 came out in 1981 and could be chambered in 270.

OMG! The original cartridge name was 7mm Express Remington, NOT 7mm Remington Express! Thankfully, I bought a brand new Savage 110 Hunter in 280 Ackley Improved with a 22-inch barrel. I use Winchester, Remington, and Norma 280 Remington brass for my reloads. Redding dies are the best over the counter dies for my money. My heavy bullets are Sierra 160 grain Game King bullets and Nosler's 160 grain Accubond and Ballistic Tip bullets. I reload all my ammo on my 30+ years old RCBS Rock Chucker II press. Another excellent cartridge from the 30-06 Springfield parent case is the 338-06 A-Square cartridge. Thor's Hammer!

While I would call it a poor man's build, I have wanted a 280 remington rifle. I bought a Savage axis 2 in 30-06. But I have just got in a 280 Remington barrel from shaw that is 1-8.5 twist barrel. I will be reloading it and plan to see if I can work a 175 eld-x load for it. Would love a powder suggestion especially since I can't find reloader 26!

Certainly can question some of the logic in marketing between Win & Rem back thru thr late 50's and into the 70's, some was great, some was abysmal, some of that is also the nature of the beast in marketing. I guess the 25cal will be the next one with a bunch more bullets and cartridges coming out, it's really the last one left to fill out on cartridge selection.

I built a custom .280 Rem a few years back. I went back and forth between building it in AI. But It really came down to the fact I already had .280Rem dies. I can easily load 140 grain bullets at 3000fps but my pet load is a 120 Barnes TTSX with IMR4831 at just over 3200fps. I would take the .280 Rem for any animal in North America except maybe the biggest bears. I know the AI is considered cooler because you can jam a little more powder in it but just the standard is a big plenty.

Just think fellas. As you sit hear on your “Pod-Cast” talk about what Remington did; right or wrong, with their 280-Remaining. Someday, there will be people talking about Hornady introducing cartridges (PRC) Went public with these rounds, telling the world how fast they were, knowing well they were telling a lie to the public. I found this unfortunate, because, people had trust in your company, now, not so much. Some people have spent lots of money on building custom rifles going on the information you provided. It’s never a good practice in business to lie to people. I think, you need to apologize for your actions.
