Ep #11 | WTF Goes into Building a Fashion, Beauty, or Home Brand? Nikhil w/ Kishore, Raj, and Ananth

It's easy to start in India but very difficult to scale in India.
This 3.5-hour podcast will cover everything you need to know about scaling a fashion, beauty, or home brand from zero to the first 20 crores, and then to 100 crores and beyond.
We have the most requested podcast guest - Kishore Biyani BACK to drop some knowledge bombs. We also have Raj, who took the route of "digital-first" for his business expansion, and Ananth, who decoded e-commerce and marketplaces first.
They delve deep into every important aspect one should know for scaling a brand, such as brand names, logos, category selection, performance marketing, SEO, growth hacking, marketplace strategies, distribution decisions, and community building.
It will be a crash course for anyone who wants to take his/her brand from 0 to 1.
If you’re below 22 and are working on building a brand from 0 to 1 in fashion, beauty, or home, here’s the chance for that support you’ve been looking for from India’s best business minds.

Zerodha is always trying to give back something to the community. Earlier it was Varsity, now it’s these series of podcasts and also this funding campaign. Kudos to you guys! Really appreciate it!!

This podcast is just so amazing that i don't get to look at timer how long it is I am just hooked to information. Nowadays I check to nikhil's chennel if they have launched any new episods or not. I want more longer content, I will be very happy to see that. I also liked how nikhil asked questions as he would start things as it answers so many basic questions which are important and are not asked otherwise to founders. I like to see this format growing bigger and bigger also I also got excited hearing you guys are funding startups founded by a 22 yrs or younger which is very exciting as I am at 22 and I also want to start something this give me MBA kind of learning through different founders. This is also my very first comment i guess as i generally don't comment on videos on youtube but got intrigued by the content of the video so thought to appreciate it. Thanks and waiting for more deep dives

2:00:45 What Anand is telling about the band...there is a mathematical relation called Weber-Fechner law, basically it says there is a permicable quantity you can increase of substance until there is a change observed in human, which is logarithm in nature. The company that leverages this the most is cadbury. Just like how much you can increase in chocolate size that you feel different, you can reduce as much to observe no change. So when Anand says I can only increase like 200 on a product, and beyond that ppl will not buy, it is governed by Weber-Fechner law.

On returns, I stopped shopping from Myntra because they started charging surcharges on my delivery because my "return percentage" was high. While I agree that I was returning stuff I didn't like, I was also shopping from Myntra precisely because I was allowed this freedom. The "touch and feel" issue they spoke about is very very true, especially in clothing. Also this thing that not everything that fits you necessarily looks good on you. I felt the returns policy allowed me to shop online because of this freedom. Completely get that it might be damaging in terms of cost for the company, but the flip side is no shopping at all, which is what happened to me and a bunch of my friends. Not sure how this issue will be solved but some food for thought.

I’m a professor and I’m recommending your podcasts to my students. I’m impressed with your idea and the way you have executed. And I kind of agree that if you do not have children you really will not find need to accumulate wealth rather you well enjoy it more by doing things that gives you real happiness. I’m also planning to start my own enterprise shortly and I’m sure that these learnings will play an important role in my journey. Please accept my heartfelt thanks. I will pray for more power to you!

This was great. But I’d love to see an edit of this with Ananth’s bits omitted and then re listen… him constantly chiming in while the others are trying to finish a train a thought was very disruptive. He may be accomplished and have a lot of insight but he came accros as a bit of a frog in a well. I would’ve loved to hear Kishore speak more. He became more quiet bc the other chap kept butting in with either ‘ y’a I was also going to say the same thing ‘ or ‘ I’d like to add onto that point’ with a super desperate insecure guy tone . Raj and Kishore and Nikhil alone for three hours would’ve been a goldmine of info!
