You know it's interesting, but when you think about how intelligent wolves and ravens are (about on par with a 5yr old human) then it makes sense why they're relationship would be so convoluted. It's not one way good or bad, because they're complicated creatures, like childrens' relationships.

They are way smarter than a 5 year old lmao. Their intelligence can't be understood by a human. That's such an insult to them. A 5 year old would die within a week on it's own in the wild.

@@Jax.Scorpio when people say dogs are as smart as a five year old child they are referring to the number of words a dog can understand. The five year old number is incorrect it's a two year old at about 160 words. We tell a dog sit, show it what they should do when they hear that word and if they are willing to comply they do. A dog will also respond to whistles, clickers and hand signs.

Excellent video. I like the mutualism hypothesis in which ravens serve as aerial reconnaissance for wolves and act as guide to prey for wolves, a kind of prey that ravens would not be able to deal with themselves. Another possibility is that ravens and wolves simply enjoy each other's company as they are both playful species and this interaction keeps these highly intelligent animals engaged and stimulated. It could be both of these as well. I agree we risk overly anthropomorphizing these animals, speculating like this, but on the other hand, intelligent social species do share a lot of similar traits and that includes humans.

You really should not have 35 subs, you should have thousands!! My favourite animal has always been a wolf, and my favourite bird a raven. Watching this video now feels like I have a strange connection between the two, even if I never knew this fact. How they both play and love each other as their own cub. I just can’t get over how strange that is. Having your favourite animals connect and you never knew!? Amazing! Great video. I wish you good luck for more views, likes and subscribers!! 🐺 ✨

What if... wolves domesticated _us?_ What if they're doing it again with ravens? What I mean is, what if it is simply the nature of wolves to form alliances or non-hostile relationships with other intelligent animals? They clearly did it with us, and it looks like they're doing it with ravens. I can see humans playing the raven's role in prehistory, although it appears most people feel like it was the reverse, that we played the wolf's role and they the raven's in many ways. But I can see a situation where humans lead wolves to food, the two groups taking turns to feed, and both getting some security. I could even see humans playing with wolf cubs.

What a fascinating concept! I suppose the key is, what do we mean by domestication? An animal that we have formed a mutualistic symbiotic relationship with? Perhaps the only difference is sapience, that we as humans intentionally domesticated animals to aid us, while wolves evolved such relationships naturally simply because they were beneficial to both species' survival. It's worth debating on a future video I'm sure.

@@ProjectDarkWolf there is some evidence that both dogs and cats domesticated themselves. Humans and wolves were competing for the same prey animals that eventually turned into a mutually beneficial relationship. When humans transitioned from hunter gatherers to a more agricultural form of living the grain stores and the garbage would attract rats and mice, attracting cats.

you have it backwards. the ravens are surely the dominant one in this relationship. They toy wit the wolves, not the other way around. Birds probably have a longer history than wolves too, so they have seniority. Ravens are probably slight more capacity for intelligence than wolves... Ravens are smart like whales, wolves are not quite that capable? But wolves are sharp, quick thinking....

Ive seen an owl play like that described, but with a 'domestic' cat, on a ''cat video'. I would therefore like to suggest, that this kind of ''mutualism' maybe goes on a whole lot more than what most ppl maybe think. In fact... I probably hypothetise, that the phenomenon is innate since the Garden of Eden...and still alive even in a currupted cosmos (by sin), until Jesus returns... When ''... The leopard will lay down with the lamb...'' as I remember the scripture with perhaps my talons v

A mutualistic relationship, by definition, is one in which both parties derive some benefit. As such, playing is a form of this: In the wild it could help hone an animal's instincts and reinforce bonding, in the domestic environment we provide pets with shelter, and even the least practically useful animal in the domestic environment (such as rodents) can provide enrichment to their owners lives through, once again, bonding and play (among other psychological benefits). Being a science channel first and foremost, I consider the first mutualistic relationship to be the endosymbiotic one between bacteria and archea (if I have my biology correct) several billion years ago in (what I consider) an Eden. Personal interpretations aside though, these kind of relationships, as you correctly point out, have been, and continue to be an essential mechanism for ecological relationships the world over and will quite likely outlive the human race.
