Thank you so much for going through these. I just picked up a race PG and need to determine what shaft is in it (I didn't know to check). My buddy has a great turbo shaft converter so now I know what to look for. I'm told these input shafts will pull out with a little effort. I'll look to see if you have a video on this.

Thanks for watching!! The input shaft is easily changed in the Powerglide. We have a new video dropping next Friday on the Powerglide direct drum, and we go over the relationship of the input shaft to the splined components inside the transmission in that episode. That should help give you a better understanding of what you're doing when it comes to swapping input shafts. 🙂

Thanks for this episode in particular. Over the years I wondered if putting a locking torque converter onto a Powerglide was feasible, now I know. Two simple speeds,a torque converter to add flexibility a manual transmission cannot possess, and a locking converter to take up that 10% odd of permanent wastage. No idea if it would make for a streetable vehicle or for what vehicle weight or engine performance it would actually work, but it is nice to know one of my gee whiz I wonder ideas proved to have merit. Cheers.

Thanks for commenting!! Our lock-up Powerglide can be used in a very wide variety of applications, including street cars, but the price point makes it cost-prohibitive for many customers.

Is it possible to look inside a converter to verify if it's got the stator support bushing. I'm building a powerglide from a nice donor tranny and one that was modified with a transbrake by someone that must not have been a skilled mechanic due to the bone stock pump etc. It broke the bellhousing and tailshaft. Someone else pulled it out and pulled the pump and high drum out. The stator support tube to the pump was missing when brought to me and the converter had fine metal on it and is in 1 county over. I'll be using the 300m turbo shaft just not sure if the converter is bushed, if can be identified then I'll make the hr plus drive to go check it. Any answer from you would be greatly appreciated, thanks. PS, I've only done 7 transmissions 350,400, fmx, 5r55e,5r55w,700r4,200r4 but never a powerglide

Australia got Powerglides behind 186ci red motors in the old Kingswoods.. Do you make a plastic or wooden one? Mum would get stuck at the bottom of our steep driveway until it warmed up enough to reverse out. She showed me my first full throttle neutral drop into reverse.

I have a Rossler Pro Mod ringless input shaft that came with a transmission that I purchased years ago. The shaft only has a bushing journal provision at the very front. The stator tube in the pump that came with this also only has a bushing at the very front. The shaft has a machined flat area in the front turbo splines with a hole that looks like an oil feed. My question is does this combo bypass the cooling passages of the transmission or does this particular shaft feed oil through that front hole that still allows the cooling passages to work. I have a turbo car and these parts are in my spare transmission, but I would like to feel comfortable knowing that this will work without overheating if and when I ever need it. Thanks in advance.

Really informative and overall good video. The only constructive criticism I have is, try not to be so monotone. It makes it difficult to pay attention. For reference, Donut Media's James Pumphery has a car history show called "Up to Speed". When starting, his videos were quite dull. But, over time he became way more lively. I'm not saying to start getting loud or include memes, but definitely work on the monotone speech. It keeps people watching a 20-minute segment from a series.
