This was an awesome one. The Sonnax servo that increases piston force is cool. I looked it up and it's patent US20180003201A1. The cross section diagram shows the second piston and chamber that increases total area. All the drilling and cross-drilling required to vent the backside is something to really geek out over. Thanks for the video series! I am excited to build a powerglide over the winter.

I watch a lot of videos a lot trying to wrap my head around this. Could you guys maybe have a transmission repair support group in my city. Should be a co-ed group I say this kind of jokingly but I think it's a good idea

As someone who is very very limited on their knowledge of autos and drag racing I have a what is probably rather stupid question. From what I have read, all the old 50's and 60's 2 speed autos where considered inferior two the 3 speeds for drag racing. Yet the 2speed power-glide is still very popular can you ex-plane?

The aluminum Powerglide became popular and has remained popular because of it's lightweight, robust design and simplicity of operation. As drag racing grew in popularity and became even more competitive, the Chevrolet small block and big block engine platforms were the engine of choice for a significant majority of racers. The Powerglide being a Chevrolet designed transmission became a natural choice and simple solution for an effective, simple, low maintenance drag racing transmission due to the reasons mentioned above. The aftermarket embraced the Powerglide design and began developing upgraded parts for the transmission which has helped insure it's vitality and livelihood today 58 years later after it's debut. Other 2-speed designs from that era never gained popularity either due to excessive weight from cast iron housings, inferior strength, limited availability, and/or inferior performance.

What about the tiny spring that goes in between the servo piston and the band apply shaft? Is it necessary or can it be discarded Thanks TJ
