Enviate makes it to Pikes Peak Hill Climb 2017

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The four year trip to Pike's Peak was certainly not an easy one for Cody Loveland and the team. Granted the car made it to Pike's Peak, it was definitely not an easy task. This video goes through some of the hurdles that the team went through, and the story of how the Enviate made it to the summit.
Special thanks: All the members of the team such as Shawn Zimmerman, Aric Streeter, Paul Gerrard. Thanks to all that helped out with the car and provided us with pictures and footage, including Adam Peeling (also the tuner) and Mark Bovey for the great photos and blog content. Thank you to all the camera operators who provided the supplementary footage for this video as well.

    The fact that it ran out of coolant halfway up the mountain, yet kept going at full race pace, is a testament to the durability of the GM LS.

    I am always curious about the choice of an LS (or any other larger v8) vs something sort of v6. Nissans VQ, Hondas J-series, can make that type of power, no? Would they not be lighter/better weight distribution?

    Funny thing about Pikes Peak... everybody wants more air for more power.... but the younger teams never seem to remember, thinner air means less efficient cooling as well.

  • @Indarow

    I think it’s cool as hell, but the aero bodywork seems like it’s mainly effective through the first half of the run. Once you’re out of the tree line the course is primarily short straights with low speed hairpins right? Wouldn’t it lose it’s main advantage at that point? I mean, sure it’s powerful as all hell, but it doesn’t seem like it has a lot of mechanical grip, mainly aero... I’m just an Amateur, and I don’t know very much of the science, but in my mind This car would be an absolute monster at tracks like Phillip Island where it could really utilize it’s aerodynamic strength to put the power to the ground.

    I don't get the shovel design in the front. Is it for scooping up gravel and wild life off the road? It showed a chip of low wind drag, But that was in a wind tunnel setup, what about in turns and cross winds? Even the open wheels in the rear, The air going over a flat surface that's rolling forward has more drag then the two sails in the front of the car.

    Wesley Vaughn you want turbos for high altitude racing so the engine gets more air

  • @WesV

    @WesV

    6 жыл бұрын

    That would make sense, but even at altitude with losses because of thin air taken into account 900hp(or even close for that matter) makes it seem like you would just be blowing the tires off of it all the time or fighting traction control.

    Race drivers know how to keep the turbo in it's powerband, and then spooling becomes less of an issue. And turbo's are more efficient than superchargers. Though a good supercharger would have worked too.
