for the curious- electric cars on PP must have sirens (minimum of 120db) so people and animals can hear them coming

the acceleration ridiculous, that made the control on steering more difficult, that's a little issue there, because it's track racing car so you need so much grip especially in the uturns, yet no doubt the car one of the best racing track toys, and it smashed the numbers, it just need a good driver, plus good weather.

I was standing just before the start line and was absolutely struck by the speed and lack of sound. It reminded me of seeing a Waco biplane with a jet engine doing an air show routine at the Reno air races. The sound didn’t match what I was witnessing. The VW pit set up was also extremely well done. Clear heated tents for the car and crew so the spectators could see, hospitality tent for the VIPs, truck covers with the VW logo to put over the U-haul rental trucks used for parts and equipment. Very impressive and top shelf to be sure.

The Stanley Steamer in the 20’s (1920’s for you kids out there) impressed people as much as this run….almost silent as it ascended the hill and gained speed as it climbed….totally unbelievable at the time.

I have to agree. Also electric has many advantages over a gas engine such as instant torque and not being affected to the decrease in oxygen as it climbs.

The car has a skirt you can see. A video I watch explained that the undercar aero is the majority of it.

Today is and Happy Fourth of July '2022 and this record still stands, great run Romain Dumas!

The downforce generated by the wing looks like a jet going supersonic. Awesome. Just wish it have a better sound.

If all the domestic cars in the world were electric, reserve gas engines for F1 & NASCAR. The roar of a gasoline engine will never be matched by an electric engine. Though I have to admit, this sounds like a smaller version of a F-15 fighter jet.

It's not an LMP1 car, it's a Norma chassis specifically built for Pikes Peak, not too dissimilar from other cars Dumas has won at Pikes Peak with, and what many Unlimited Class cars utilize.

Cool car but it only held the record a year, it got it's arse kicked by a large margin the following year (engine ofc).

Would love to see a split screen with Loeb to see where the time is cut off the run....is it microscopic gains in every straight, or better power at elevation? Would be interesting to see!

Electric engines have instant torque, so basically every time Loeb changed gears there was a split second without power. Also oxygen decreases constantly during the climb, I am sure Loeb's team adjusted this, however that something an electric car doesn't need to worry about.

En plus là VW est vraiment quasiment une prototype du man adapté à pikes peak (j'entends par là châssis monocoque carbone aerodynamisne ultra poussé sur la carrosserie etc). En comparaison les ingénieurs Peugeot pour construire la 208 t16 avaient du faire avec des pièce existantes dans un temps record. (châssis tubulaire en alu, la voiture ayant des contrainte sur l'aero puisqu'elle devaient reprendre les formes de la 208. Un moteur v8 repris de je sais plus où mais il aurait pu avoir plus performant) moi je dis j'espère le retour de Peugeot et Sébastien Loeb.

As much as I enjoy the sound, feel, and thrills the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) has given us, their phase-out stage for advancement has certainly begun. As human existence moves forward it will always improve its tools by realizing requirements through knowledge. Otherwise, we'd still be lighting a lantern and hunting with spears. Current generations are witnessing history go by, we are at the tail-end of another era and its lessons.

Nevertheless, Test and Time will deliver the measure of benefit and detriment from either.

This car is fast. I love how it grabs the asphalt and how breaks the wind. If I was there it would sound loud.

After the high of watching Sebastian Loeb's run in the Peugeot this clip left me feeling deflated. There is no drama and excitement to the sound, instead I was reminded of vehicles racing in one of those Star Wars movies. Seems fast is'nt always engrossing.

yeah for pure emmision free cars in about 6 min impressive, the Porsche 919 with his incredible 5:19 its maybe a hybrid but the fastest in everything and that thing sends shivers down the spine everytime it hits 300 and you think "well thats it" noooo, electric engine kicks in on high rpm of the combust engine everytime he hits the max Nm, sick shit^^
