Im an Indian from India, these protocols look weird, where did they come from?
@rishaadhussein9888
3 жыл бұрын
These protocols, or customs for entering a house were passed down mainly from our ancestors who came from the Uttar Pradesh and Bihar parts of India. They came between 1879-1916, so much has changed from the village life then to village life now. In Fiji, these are very common, more or less, necessary to enter an Indian home, from what I have experienced visiting relative's houses.

Amit, some of these are still practiced in India, but what seems strange to us, might actually be normal to others. Cultures also alter with travel. So, please be kind. Indo-Fijians, though have kept much Indian culture alive. Its fascinating.

Do the Fijian natives and these Indian settlers mix socially and do they marry across the racial divide?

It’s common nowadays to intermix but now so much in the past. I’m native Fijian with Indian heritage. A lot of my relatives also have Chinese, European and or India ancestry. I don’t know how to explain it but all I could say is there’s pure itaukeis, old generation mix “itaukeis” (basically pure native at this point lol), and new generation mix. Indo fijians and itaukeis live side by side and we treat each other like fams. A couple of my aunties married Indo Fijian men. It’s an island after all. Mixing is bound to handle at some point

Well i thought humans have been always welcoming to all animals including us until invasions, power struggle, consumptions of many things including idealogy, treatment of not just women but other little details i can't give which is probably not appropriate and slavery in all kinds which still exists.

These (Bhojpuri-Hindi dialects speaking Indo-Fijians) are the most discriminated and disliked communities of Fiji. Even if they move to other developed English-speaking countries, they still being bullied and discriminated by the native Fijians and others.
