There were so many future greats in this film. The man Bruce fights at the beginning is Sammo Hung. Jackie Chan is one of Han's minons. The big muscular guy is Bolo Yeung. Another living legend. He also appears in Bloodsport with Jean Claude Van Damme. Angela Mao also appeared in some great martial arts films. The film is one of my fondest memories of My teenage years. You have no idea what a phenomenon Bruce was in the 70s. We had never seen anything like him before. I think that it's taken for granted now.

Sammo was already working with Bruce as both an onscreen stunt guy and actor and off screen as a martial arts/stunt coordinator. It's pretty stunning the influence that Bruce had in such a short life.

There are a few more future kung fu movie stars that is in the movie.names u would really have to know if u watched kung fu movies from the mid 70's to the mid 80's.People like Yuen Biao,Philip Ko Fei(R.I.P.),Yuen Wah,Alan Chui(R.I.P.) and a young Meng Hoi.

I saw this in the theatre back in the day and was amazed at Bruce Lee's lightning-fast moves. I'm glad to hear it got such a great transfer, even if WB was rather stingy with the extras.

I've had VCR versions, DVD 📀, HD DVD, Blu-ray 📀, and now 4k Bruce Lee. You can never have enough. The master.

I grew up on Bruce Lee’s movies and I loved his fighting style, (Jeet Kune Do) which I think he created himself. When I was a kid I loved martial arts movies.

Hi Ken, First off, thanks for the heads up to watch today’s episode. Much appreciated! And keep up the awesome work! (you’re one of 5 or 6 physical media specialists I watch regularly !) As I stated, like you, and I think many viewers on KZread physical media shows, I’m stunned by Warner Brothers efforts. They are incredibly lacking. Please bear with me: To compare: I had spoken to some fellow collectors about Severin’s LE of Dario Argento’s Four Flies on Grey Velvet at last year’s Black Friday sale. The complaints were … “ too expensive”. However when you analyze : you had a 4 disc set (1 4k disc, 2 blu rays, and a soundtrack cd) ; 2 cuts of the movie on blu ray and 4k discs, all kinds of bonus features (featurettes , interviews, documentaries, audio commentaries, brand new remastering , interviews included Dario Argento and several members of cast and crew) , hard jewel case, and higher gauge cardboard slip cover w/ inks and special spot varnish coating in key places (I’ve studied graphic design and can attest that despite what some may think, the slip cover alone was really well done and costs a bit.) All the above was $55 before taxes (which was at a reasonable pricing and didn’t change much if you added to your order afterwards.) I got 3 other films, all which still had slip covers, and one was a 2 disc set (Stone….. awesome 70’s exploitation film from Australia.) I realize not everyone would do what I did, but I splurged last year, and got great deals……. We’re talking 8 discs, slip covers, 2 or 4k remasters on everything…… it came to something like $11 per disc or so. Having said that, I’d still buy the Argento movie if I didn’t get the other items….. the pricing was honestly reasonable, alone ($13 approximately per disc if I got Four Flies alone.) And, Severin is a smaller specialty label, catering to a smaller clientele, with less known horror/ sci fi / exploitation films. I can understand them having a higher price than the big companies. What is Warner Brother’s excuse? This is their 100th anniversary, and the 50th anniversary of both Exorcist and Enter the Dragon….. 2 of the greatest films of all time. Both helped jump start the blockbuster era. For the Exorcist The UK got : happily, multiple release versions : 2 cuts of the film, with audio commentary , in …..limited edition box set (with 5 discs, including all previous documentaries, posters, slip cards, bible shaped box, limited to 2000 copies. It not well advertised, it sold out in less than 12 hours , on presale no less, and some of those, ended up twice the price on presale on Ebay, by price gougers) ; A steel book limited edition came out , with some of the material from the box set (including all older documentaries from all previous releases) , The standard edition 4k / blu ray combo packs for both Exorcist and Enter the Dragon , both come with….. 4k and blu rays, and all the bonus features on both films, are there. They also used the classic poster art for Exorcist …… Fr. Merrin in the fog, in front of the home, with the street light on…… creepy , atmospheric , leaves some suspicion of what you’re dealing with…… classic ! In the US we get : no special editions, and only 4k only releases of both cuts of each film. The Exorcist has the inferior new art. Audio commentary, no bonus features. No new features. No 4k remastered blu ray, for the 50th anniversary. I preordered Exorcist US edition, but just cancelled and ordered the standard edition UK version….. I have a region free player and with which to view the blu rays…. And of course the 4k’s are region free….. but I’ll get the documentaries now. What gives ? Why is WB doing this ? do they care ? Is there any reason to believe that while physical media is selling at a slower pace , while still relatively healthy, the big companies just want to kill off physical media and force everyone to go to streaming ? None of this makes sense, for 50th anniversaries. With Disney announcing they’re stopping physical media sales in Austrailia and New Zealand; announcing tonight they’re jacking up their streaming prices, buying 20th Century Fox, Marvel, Lucasfilms, Muppets ….. then pulling Willow tv show off of the platform entirely (for tax purposes) …. None of this seems right. What are these big companies trying to do ? i’ve been hearing lately that physical media sales are still fairly strong, and if nothing else, will remain at least a niche business, for the hard core fans. Is this still true after what we’re seeing ?

Hey, Ken! Thank you for reviewing this iconic film! This is hands down the best martial arts movie of all time. I rewatched this movie a month ago on its 50th anniversary and I have decided to learn the martial art that Bruce Lee created Jeet Kune Do and I’m training JKD since September!

The Arrow set is so good has so many previously unreleased cuts that the criterion didn't have. The one down side was the bluray of enter the dragon which is the 40th anniversary version but it does have some great special features.

Very true. I would still recommend ETD 4K if you're really into picture quality, but that set is amazing.

Yeah I am digging into that set and there's more in it than I think I could actually truly watch. It is understandable that they only have the Blu-ray of ETD as WB was clearly not going to let them have the 4K.

I’m at the point where I’m no longer interested in most special features on these releases and usually just want the film so I’m not too bothered by the lack of them in this release but I did notice that Warner seems to have pulled a Disney and like you said no Dolby Vision on the disc instead opting for HDR10 but the iTunes version has Dolby Vision just like the Disney films do. Strange but not a super huge deal.

I have the blue ray and it’s an excellent transfer. The 4K is an also a good transfer, the colours are a bit better on the 4K. It’s a minor upgrade.I have the extras on the blue ray so I was fine with it. The only disappointing thing is no new extras. I believe it came with a blue ray in the Uk which is strange.

The blu ray which was released in the UK combo pack, was not based off the new 4K restoration. It’s simply a copy of the 40th anniversary blu ray that they also used for the Arrow box set.

The lack of special features shouldn't be disappointment, if there are special features on other video format releases. Enter the Dragon is 50 years old, and if anybody who are a fan of the movie should already know everything about the it inside and out and if not, Google and research it. Everything you want to know is on the internet.

@@slimdude2011 yes, I already have the 40th anniversary which has the special features and I also have the Arrow release which is the same disc as well. That’s why I cancelled my UK order, when I realized it was the same disc yet again.

Great review Ken. Simply no excuse they couldn't have ported over the special features from previous releases. Such a shame to the Lee legacy.

Glad you liked it! The Criterion set is awesome and you already own the best one in 4k, so I don't think you need to be paying more to get the Arrow set.

The Theatrical version of the film is what most people remember... I have seen this film literally tons of times... The 4K version was just incredible, but you are right about the lack of special features. I do have what's been released as special features on other releases. It would have been great to see the special features in 4K. Warner was just being lazy, especially sense the Arrow box set had a ridiculous amount of special features.

From South Wales UK 🇬🇧 bought this release Monday, have watched both cuts, imo best the movie has looked, also the atmos soundtrack was a welcome upgrade, also the UK release has a regular bluray with *all the special features on board* glad I bought it again worth every penny.

Well for what it's worth Ken, you're not alone. I'm only just discovering Bruce Lee films for the first time myself. Picked up the Criterion set (since the price couldn't be beat during the sale). I've been enjoying getting myself up to speed on Bruce's work.

It must be amazing getting into Bruce Lee at this age. I literally have been fascinated with Bruce Lee since I could speak. I don’t have memories older than my memories of first seeing Bruce Lee. I remember always asking my dad “Is that Bruce Lee ?” Until I was old enough to perceive subtle differences in people’s features. Then as an adult I rediscovered Bruce Lee at various levels of intellectual maturity and there’s no end to the fascination because it turns out the man was a literal genius.

The UK release has the bluray with all the extras.

Just watched it. Great 4K transfer, I’m glad they left out most of the grain. HDR looks great.

I'm with you on this one, Ken. 50th anniversary of the movie and 100th anniversary of WB and they don't include a single new special feature? Meanwhile Arrow produced tons of new stuff for their Bruce Lee box set. WB should have just let Arrow do whatever they want with Enter the Dragon. So lame.

Thankfully, WB issued a low-priced, bare-bones 4K release as well as a deluxe double disc edition. You can choose between the two.

We have to wait until the 23rd for this in Australia, but at least the release here will include the Blu-ray for the special features. I already had the old 2007 Blu-ray and now the newer disc that comes in the Arrow Bruce Lee boxset so no complaints here...

Only including the 4k disc seems to be for America only. The UK got the blu-ray obviously, and it seems like we do in the Nordics as well. The movie isn't releasing here until next month, though.

Just an fyi if you use the movies anywhere digital code. All the special features are available on movies anywhere

I can`t believe this is yer first Bruce film! So let me tell you why you need that Arrow 4k set and dont go with the criterion, and it honestly amazes me nobody is really talking about this. But Arrow some how uncovered the remaining 2 film reels for Bruces final and unfinished film game of death. Has only been 9 reels for 30 plus years. You gain an entire new fight sequence. They also found Bruces notes on what is said during the dialogue sequences. Arrow includes a 3 hour disc called Final Game of Death comprising of all the footage and detailing it. And the final hour you get Arrows reconstructed version. They created an entirely new beginning sequence to try and provide some story and make sense of it all. Spliced all the footage together and also added all new sound fx and hired voice actors for the dialogue sequences that up until now were muted. You essentially get a brand new Bruce film and the most complete version of Game of Death we will ever see. And you wont get that in the criterion or anywhere else for that matter as its arrows creation. That set is a must have whether yer a fan or new to Bruce, dont sleep on it! They will sell out, its an important release every collector should have

Very odd the version I just picked up here in the UK has the blu ray with the 4k so plenty of special features. Well worth importing for you Ken

This was a no brainer for me as I only had it on DVD. Want to watch it again right now but have a dolby atmos soundbar on the way so am going to wait until it arrives before I rewatch it.

I had this on HD-DVD. That transfer was good and bad. But it was an early disc on a failed format…

That Bruce Lee Arrow set is well worth the price it's just stuff to the brim with features and the transfer are the best it's ever looked.

@@faithman48 The 4k discs will play on your 4k player no problem but there is four blu-ray discs that are region B locked so your gonna need a region free/all region blu-ray player to play those discs. Hope that helped.

I got the BD version because I haven’t upgraded to 4K. 4K blu ray is region free, but even if you get the Arrow 4K box set, half the set are blu ray discs that are Region B. Unless you have a region free 4K blu ray player.

The UK version has extras. Which is interesting. There's nothing new apparently but there are extras there

Standard Uk version comes with blu ray and most of the extras for £19.99 not sure of import price in US. The 4k disc label has white text and a white dragon motif which very different to other versions.

We get the bluray in the UK with all the extras 😁

I had ordered the UK version but cancelled it, when I realized it was just a copy of the 40th anniversary blu ray, which I already own. I have a region free blu ray player and recently got a bunch of Jackie Chan stuff from 88 films, Arrow and Eureka. Region B releases are awesome. 🕺😎

The Australian release has a Blu-ray as well but that doesn't come out to the 23rd of this month

My guess is it would've needed a second disc to include all those special features and they only wanted to do single disc release, probably due to cost. Special features not a big factor for me personally. All about the movie itself. Never seen this either and on the fence on getting. Glad to hear the transfer is good so makes me more interested.

It's not a good transfer, especially being on a 100gb disc the average bitrate is around 45mb/sec. Should have been double that.

Then this release is perfect for you and at least WB reflected that in the lower cost.

I enjoy the film and have the 40th (2013) release and the Criterion release. Other than 4K and Atmos I don't feel compelled to get this. Maybe when it comes down in price.

Thats weird because i got the Warner Bros uk release of this a few days ago and it had 2 discs which included all the special features you are missing, only negative was the discs had no artwork.

There’s three documentaries on my blu ray.

I'm confused. I have the UK release and there are special features on an included bluray inc 'Blood and Steel' making of, Backyard Workouts with Bruce, and several more.

Can't wait to watch it never seen it either and their doing the same thing with the exorcist release no special feature on the disc but I got the uk release and it comes with the blu ray and all the bonus

Game of Death is the movie Bruce was making when he died and they had to use lookalikes to finish it, but it was still good. Way of the Dragon is another great one.

I have the criterion box set. I will not be upgrading to this 4k

I just pre-ordered the limited edition box set. It does have the bluray with the extras. I already have the bluray so I guess I have to double dip.

All of the UK Enter The Dragon Blu Ray releases don't include Warrior's Journey documentary, only the US blu rays includes it. Warriors Journey is the best documentary as it shows the 45mins lost footage from game of death movie.

Even though I got the BD set and not the 4K, it still looks better than the Criterion, which I also own. I’ve been watching Bruce Lee movies since the VHS era.🤪

I have the Criterion collection Bruce Lee bluray box set. The Enter the dragon is a 2K scan but looks very good (but probably not as good as 4K). But this set has TONS of extras. Because of owning the box set and the 4K being strictly the movie... I'm gonna have to wait until the price drops some more to buy this 4K. But if you're looking to dive into Bruce Lee, the Criterion set is an awesome way to do it.

I agree about the 2K version of Enter The Dragon in the Criterion Collection.... However, the Warner 4K... is just incredible. I will pop the extras in from the Criterion Collection, but watch the 4K when I want to watch the film.

I don't know why some people fall head over heels about special features. The special features don't appeal to me, and I never watch them. When I buy Blu-ray and 4K movies, I buy them for the movie only. The special features, I couldn't care less about.

They could have put 50th Anniversary on the cover ...

Ken, when these studios send you disc's to review and you speak on behalf of the people and what we want, do they ever listen?

I would rather have a cheaper price for one 4K disc with a great transfer than have a bunch of special features on a 2nd disc that I would only watch maybe once.

Guess I have no idea how the Dolby Vision licensing works. Odd that the digital copy you get with this physical release has Dolby Vision and Atmos however no Vision on the disc? So obviously studios have to pay for a digital license and a physical release OR Dolby is giving away the license for digital use? I just wonder since they obviously have the Dolby Vision data why not include it on the disc? And agree with you Ken, how do you have a WARNER 100 version of this release and you do not include them here. Glad you finally watched this film!

I thought it looked great and without starting the video I can already tell the one big negative is a lack of special features. But wasn’t there a huge collector edition also released? I remember those Blu releases becoming OOP and Linda Lee had issues with the special features about inaccurate information said about Bruce Lee, that’s why they became out of print so quick.

I found it hysterical, that you're talking about the knives, saying "Oh wait, I don't want to give anything away". Spoilers don't count 50 years later. You might be the last to first time watch it. I am not a huge kung-fu or martial arts guy and I've watch this at least 5 times. This is probably the only one I enjoy more than Bloodsport.
