@@TheEryk03 you can use lead. Lead has a low melting point compared to iron 800 degrees C vs 1800, is heavier by volume. YES i know lead is toxic when melted, so wear a gas mask (duuh) YES i know lead is "soft" but cased in sheet metal and rubber, it won't deform or matter. Lead is also easy to buy from builders yard store, sold in rolls for roofing. Lead will mean very thin competion style plates, for maximum bar loading Get a furnace going, make some moulds out of cement, away you go

Okay, so they know the weight of the metal plates and rings, but the rubber cast volume and density won't be consistent enough to produce consistent weight. What do they do at the end of the process (after shaving excess rubber) to adjust it to the final weight?

It has to be insignificant few grams of difference with the stablished weight, i bet is less than a quarter pound of rubber in the final plate. Not an expert but thats what i think
