Ennis vs Chukhadzhian FULL FIGHT: January 7, 2023 | PBC on Showtime PPV

Спорт

Rising welterweight star Jaron “Boots” Ennis (30-0, 27 KOs) cruised to a unanimous decision over Karen Chukhadzhian (21-2, 11 KOs) to earn the vacant Interim IBF Welterweight Title after going 12 rounds for the first time by the score of 120-108 three times.
“I learned to just take my time and to not rush anything,” said Ennis. “I’m glad I went 12 rounds. It felt great. I felt I was in the best shape. I just needed to throw a little more punches. I should have got him out of there.”
Philadelphia’s Ennis moved himself one step closer to a world title opportunity against the cagey and evasive Chukhadzhian. The Ukrainian showed deft footwork throughout the fight, never staying in the pocket long enough for Ennis to put combinations together while landing the occasional counter.
Overall Chukhadzhian was out landed by a 203 to 97 margin, as Ennis also held advantages in accuracy (34% to 17%) and body shots (88 to 11). This was Ennis’ first fight that went the distance since 2017.
“He ran a lot,” said Ennis. “Hats off to him since a lot of guys didn’t want to fight me. So shout out to him for coming here and taking this fight.”
“He had a different level of speed than I’m used to,” said Chukhadzhian. “I don’t make any excuses though. I wish I could have done more to hurt him.”
Ennis remained patient through the championship rounds, as he tried in vain to break down his backpedaling opponent before settling for the decision. With the interim title in tow, Ennis set his sights on unified IBF, WBA and WBC Welterweight Champion Errol Spence Jr.
“Everyone knows I want Spence,” said Ennis. “I’ll keep waiting until the time is right and Spence is ready to take the fight.”

@@Usmanthemecanonaw there wasn’t much value in this fight I doubt there were many bets. That could be it too but in fights like this the crowd gets restless and bored. It happens all the time at fights. When people take time to go to fights and add in drinks and whatnot they want to see a show. Its different being there live and you have to consider big ppv cards like this one bring out a lot of casuals and they want a show. All that factors in to the Boos.

I don’t think they were booing the fight itself, just the performance by Karen. Ennis stayed busy and landed some good shots but Karen just wanted to run and take it the distance. It was more directed at Karen himself.

I agree! Good boxers train to stick and move. Hit and not get hit. Just trying to survive is different than understanding your strengths. Chukhadzhian managed his strength and foot movement well, especially considering the power of his opponent. He remained composed and hit back when he could. Even the commentator stated that Chukhadzhian had thrown nearly the same amount of punches as Ennis. Ennis just landed better and had pretty good defense. I don't see that as running to just survive. Give these professional fighters more credit. Him and his dad thought that they would just run straight through this guy but instead got humbled with a 12th round decision victory.

What a nice surprise, this Chukhadzhian guy. In the line of Willie Pep, Nicolino Locche and Pernell Whitaker. Lightning reflexes, a few good combinations and very precise counters that PBC didn't show on replays: only Ennis's. His fluid movements are a joy to watch, and he just needs more power. I don't see any other boxer like him, right now. In 12 rounds against a top contender (even more a southpaw) he was never in trouble, and he slipped all the power punches. You could sense the frustration of Ennis, with those wild misses.

6 inch reach advantage and lost the jab war. Ennis just owerpowered the guy that fought not to lose, or just to survive. He can puch and counter, but needs to be able to set the punches with faints. No faints at all. Not enough for Crawford. He can probably beat the other guys, including Spence, but what he showed is not enough to beat Bud. He will have to start working on faints and setups to get to new level asap. Young guy, hard worker, paying his dues. Respect. Karen has great footwork , defence and counter punching, but no offense. Needs to get busier in order to make a name for himself Good fight for the fans. Two solid technical boxers. A lot of skill on display.

Only thing I would say is Boots needed to cut the ring off but it's still hard to stop a guy who is very evasive and doesn't want to engage. Similar to Naoya Inoue - Paul Butler. That fight only lasted long because Butler was doing well to avoid Inoue's big shots at all costs until he got caught late.

Seeing a lot of boxers like Chukadzhian the last few years, but many of them don't mix enough aggression to win fights. This also speaks to Ennis having deceptively good defense for most all of the exchanges. When he did punch, Chukadzhian couldn't land anything effectively. Ennis needed to be more active and cut the ring off more to get damage in. Don't let a guy like this have free reign of the ring. If Chukadzhian had won more exchanges, he could have easily won some rounds off Ennis. Good boxing match.

I read the comments and I cut off the volume. First, this was a very tactical boxing match. Karen was not running. He was using distance, pivoting and turning. He fought in spots he felt comfortable. Boots has an 74" reach. But Boots was off balance in certain sequences. He was not remaining in his zone of balance. But that was mostly because Karen wasn't an easy target. He wanted to cut the ring off but he couldn't. Because Karen was beating him to get the outside foot. He got Jaron Ennis respect "He couldv'e been given the round" in round 4". If he never fights him again. He need to invite this guy to train. He gave Jaron Ennis a lot to work on.

I saw this fight and I got reminded that there are levels upon levels upon levels in boxing … Ennis is good but still has some holes and tiny mistakes that he makes …not PERFECT, I compare him with any other guy and he is better than all of them but when you compare him with Crawford side by side you can see The tiny things missing in his game which Crawford has . If he tries to go forward offensively on Crawford trying to bully him he his going to have his face rearranged unfortunately 😢
