And another was Piero Umiliani, with very sophisticated music up to the amusing Mah na mah na, composed for a silly B-series film. I'm sure that in the history of cinema there have been wonderful authors in the USA and elsewhere, but the few really good Italians were truly excellent.

They should have played The Ecstasy of Gold as he went up to receive his Oscar.

Maestro made a super fun score for “My Name is Nobody” that I always sing in my head 😂 (Side note, I like the alternate title “Once Upon a Time… The Revolution” to go with the other 2 in the trilogy. I believe Serio liked it more as well, but studios were lame back then) All of these titles are fantastic though. Unreal how many great movies Ennio has scored!

He should have got an oscar long time ago for his masterpieces like, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Malèna, Cinema Paradiso, Casualties of War, The Mission, Once Upon A Time In The West/America, The Untouchables and many more. 5 oscar-nominations, only a honorary award and 83 wins from other award commissions...91 other nominations (And that`s a lot), and finally (I think because of Tarantino, who makes wonderful movies) he gets one for The Hateful Eight. He got that Oscar for Hateful 8 and he had received an honorary Oscar years before, so he has 2 :) The first time he travelled to America was when he got his first honorary Oscar.

It's scandalous that other than the special award Oscar of a few years ago, this is the first Oscar for a film score, he should have 20, maestro.

LEGEND! He is just so amazing and seemed so moved. Also really loved to see him hug John Williams and acknowledge him in his speech. :) My two favorite composers and I really love both the Hateful Eight and Force Awakens scores. Both are in their 80s and still kicking ass!

Age has caught up with him but it would have been tragic if he was too frail to receive the award personally. It is also sad that he didn't win before for his other masterpieces, hateful 8 wasn't his best work. It is like they had no choice but to give it to him to make up for the past.

His work speaks for itself. The Oscar industry recognized him too late, and even if he passed away at 91, it feels like he left too soon. Ennio was a GENIO.

That standing ovation still give me goosebumps

My father and I watched "Two Mules for Sister Sarah" today, my father is an old man to be a father and since I was young my father introduced me to all the bang bang spaghetti films that he knows and love, and most of them Ennio was present with his fantastic soundtrack. Ennio is my favorite composer since I was 14, today I am 24 and my father 76, thank God for being my father's son. RIP Ennio the best composer of 20th/21st century and the favorite of my bloodline.

So much humility from the GOAT. For all anyone can complain about QT, he gave The Maestro a chance to claim what he’s deserved for at least 50 years.

James Ivory comes really close. Ivory, who's 5 months older than Morricone, won his first ever Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for CALL ME BY YOUR NAME (he's 89).

It's such a beautiful scene to watch these two geniuses, Ennio Morricone and John Williams, to hug each other with so much respect and dedication. These two are the truest of artists!

If only Ennio Morricone settled in America or England and worked more in Hollywood, he would have had more than 10 Oscars and 100 nominations...People comparing to John WIlliams should know that ENnio Morricone is a proud Italian and doesnt much work on English Films, ask the critics who is better and u will see that they leon on Morricone's side

Who cares the Oscar!?! Quincy Jones is like a baby in a fairground... repeatedly saying "Fratellino!" (Little brother) in Italian, and his final hug is touching. John Williams paid respect as well! Thanks Maestro for being a worldwide genious. Italy mourns you. Altro che Oscar! The best musical score that I have seen for a movie singlehandedly ever!!! I loved The Hateful Eight! Very underrated! I know people are going to hate me to say this, but this is my opinion! 😃😃😃

His score for The Good, The Bad and the Ugly can't be topped

In my opinion, he deserved for Cinema Paradiso and The Mission, no doubt. This is more a consolation award. It's a shame. How genius he was. He and John Williams are my favorite composers.
