Ennio Morricone- MIssion to Mars

Morricone's music for the 2000 Brian DePalma directed film feels ridiculously over-the-top in the film at times, but as a stand alone listening experience this is a wonderful, dramatic and highly romantic score. Enjoy!

People are profoundly stuck up about science fiction these days. This movie presented a theme and story as 'science-FICTION-y" as any out there, with music from the great Ennio himself to boot. It was and remains one of the best memories I have with my dad, who took me to see this movie when I was just 13. Mission to Mars is a fantastic film about trepidation (hence the music) in the face of stepping out to find new and amazing frontiers. Gary Sinise is the right man to carry the main protagonist's character who has lost his wife and is battling with himself as to how to move on. This movie is a wonderfully expressive and a wholesome take that filled me in my youth with wonder and hope for the future. Forget the naysayers. ❤️

Ennio Morricone's soundtrack to Mission to Mars was probably on his top 10 list of best soundtracks. Although the movie did not score well with critics, it presented a possible idea of life on mars and his music just adds to the emotional aspect.

My favorite aspect of this film was the friendship between the characters. They felt like real astronauts. Most movies like this would infuse all this drama between the characters...but here the only real drama was the danger of the mission. Wonderful film. The music always stood out to me. I can’t say that about too many modern movies.

This is one of the most underrated movies of all time - and the only film that's been left on the HDD of my freeview box for about two years. As for the music, I am someone who appreciates good music - I don't trouble myself with that's cool etc. This is brilliant music - the fact that I've deliberately searched it out says a lot...

If I should make a music video to this, it should be this: The first person to move to Mars is lying on her/his deathbed. As the life begins to fade out, flashbacks from childhood to deathbed is shown. The training to live on Mars, the launch, the touchdown, all of the memories will be shown from start to the end, and when the melody is over, so is his/her life. The first person to have lived almost an entire life is dead.

great music to a great movie. the themes of the movie are universal, and the music portrays them well. through the many clear uses of solo lines up to the gradual build-up to climaxes morricone expresses such themes as love (personal, romantic, human, for creation,) and ultimately that sense of longing that humans and even other creatures can experience...
