    Another difficult part of learning English is words that have the same letter combination but are pronounced differently. Cough, rough, borough, dough, through, thought, and bough all have "ough" in the spelling but they are pronounced differently. My second language is Spanish and they pronounce words exactly like they are spelled so the phoneme-grapheme-morpheme rules are strait forward. My wife is Mexican and she had a hard time saying this sentence: I plough the field to plant wheat so I can make dough, although it’s rough because the ground is tough.
