Both teams had chances that on another day would have been in the back of the net to be fair. The game was lacking in tempo, especially in the first half and it felt to me as though both teams were too cautious about losing the opening qualifier, as opposed to going full out to win it. England only seemed to ramp it up towars the end. Sweden will be happier with the draw than England though.

@@sandrapatriciaoriguarios4589 Exactly that, and there are no easy games anymore. We are in this tough group because of our poor performance in the Nations League. That was never just about Olympic qualification. But it also has to be said that Sweden has perhaps the best defence of the teams in the group. I can see us winning both games against Ireland and France, but we will have to be better than we were here. It might come down to that away game against Sweden to decide the group if Sweden also win all of their other games. Group stages are always tricky anyway, because unlike a tournament, there is no route to building momentum. As a manager, you are just hoping players are fit for each international break and are able to play to some level of form. There are also no surprises for a lot of these players, given how many of them play in the WSL. That is why international management is a completely different ball game to club management, where you are able to work with and develop players week in and week out.

Because France finished top of their group in the Nations League , so go in this group from the first pot. England finished second in their group, and Sweden finished third. Uefa, in their wisdom ( Uefa and wisdom in same sentence? ) decided that anyone not top of their NL group, goes into the second pot. So you have a few teams , that would normally win their group, put in another group as ' runners up ' . That make sense?

Lots of reasons. Most corners are inswinging kicks and goalkeepers are taught to stay in the middle of the goal close to their line. Also women have weaker arm strength and makes it harder to catch the ball without it slipping through the fingers or dropping it. Same for punching, the ball doesn’t go very far and if one of their players is outside the box, it’s an excellent shot if the goal keeper is off her line. She also isn’t exceptionally tall for a female keeper, players like wubben-moy and definitely Renard could easily beat her to it. Also the way players line up for corners, there’s almost always a player positioned to simply stand in your way. Obstructing the goalkeepers view is only a foul if the player is offsides and there’s no offsides on corner so it makes it harder to navigate around and get to the ball on time. You gotta play to your strengths and I don’t think her strength is coming out and catching it.

@PS0120 Yes, you're quite right about her favouritism, which sometimes resembles her head in the sand. Is it not time to replace Walsh and Stanway, both of whom repeatedly make poor passes which lead to a mad scramble to salvage? Earps and the backs spend far too much time passing the ball around between themselves. The only player of visible quality last night was Alessia Russo, who scored and was the only player who looked as though she might score again; and we know what happened to her. She looked a bit unhappy at being substituted but she had every right to be. Overall, a very poor performance but if we were Swedes instead of Brits we'd be spitting blood over Blackstenius's miss. A lot of times last night England kept passing the ball back Like our men do, serena Hasn't been talking to southgate has she ? England play not to lose in the second half. They came out scare and sat on the lead. Sweden did everything to equalize and kept the pressure, fine passing, control, and worked England midfield ultimately caught Lucy Bronze sleeping. Sweden has been an power house in the women’s game for the past decade. And definitely been the most consistent team for sure. They’re press is so well organized. That doesn’t mean England is regressing. Also want to point out that Russo was sick last week and didn’t even practice with Arsenal. So she is not 100%. Also to note, Rolfo is just making her way back from injury. Although her skills maybe a little rusty, she definitely benefitted from being refreshed while the other players look exhausted. As an American if you wanna see regression, 👋

Could it be that other coaches have sussed out the way Sarina sets up her team-after all they have had some time now to analyse all of England's Euro matches in detail. I'm not saying that she should be replaced, but she doesn't seem to have a plan B when plan A isn't working. Taking off Russo without replacing her with Daly was a mistake as the forwards no longer had a focal point to play to.

So E will disagree based on the most recent performances but these ebb and flows happen all the time, especially with football where teams are more competitive compared to in other sports Spain are obviously miles ahead at present. Personally in this group I think Sweden and England are going to have a psychological advantage over France because they will be more desperate to win after the nation's league and missi g out in the olympics.

since the last Euro's . From after the Euro Final Victory , up to and including the WC Final , England were 14 - 3 - 2. Those two losses were a friendly v Australia at the end of the WSL season, and Spain in the WC Final. If any other team has a better record over that time , let me know :) Since the WC , they have struggled , although they drew on points for first place in Div A of the Nat Lge , scoring more goals than every team in Div A except Spain. Their record since the WCF is 6-1-2 . scoring 28 goals in 9 games. The two losses were v NL and Belgium. Tough group. Those 3 teams all played each other , beating and losing to each other. still missing something. Possibly. Their run from Sarinas take over to the WCF was 38 games undefeated . Mainly against lower to mid teams . A team of excellent players , and playing fast attacking football , scoring loads of goals and having fun. Everyone wants to play on a winning team. Win the Euros and you have a target on your back. Get to the WCF and teams start finding that target. Every game will be tough from now on. Same for all the top teams.

@@PS0120 The country that hosts the Euros would be picked a few years before , to enable them to organise it. Sarina had 14 games from when she took charge until the Euros kicked off. So a good amount of time to choose her team, get them used to playing together, and she plays more attacking football than previous managers. And she told them to score lots of goals. Which they did, and loved every minute of it. The injuries? You can train a team to be as fit as possible , and the quick passing game didnt give the other teams time to tackle them. You cant control injuries, but you can try to reduce the chance of getting them. You cant control who you play against, and who that team fields. Popp was missing from the German side in the Final. Luck? Every team gets some , or none , game by game. Spain took the lead. Sarina changed the formation in the second half and brought on 3 subs. That was good coaching. Plus England were ' not ' going to lose. Determination to win. Lucky? Maybe. But not luck ' on its own' . Great players with confidence, great coaching , and a belief in themselves. Add a smidgen of luck and there you go.
