West Germany were in transition then. Breitner, Muller had retired. No Netzer who was in Spain. New players being tried. Great team 1970- 1974 but in decline by 1975

@@randyborstol2491 In fact the great Paul Breitner was in dispute with Schoen who didn't like playing foreign based players so he might have stayed on under another manager. A shame because they greatly missed him between 75-81.

England did NOT beat Germany (West) in a competitive match for 34 years but beat them a few times in friendlies

Good game. Sir Alf was a gent! Love the way Brian Moore called many of the German passes "arrogant"! England needed a lot more practice with their corners though.
