Surely,he should have been, at least, nominated for his Personality and why didn't Micah Richards win it every year? Then you have Ronnie O’Sullivan.One of the greatest sportsman this country has ever produced & carried snooker for 30 years never ever winning it. She seems to be famous for two things really. One, the furore over her shirt being the only one not available to buy as a replica for some reason (a decision which was reversed later) and two, for telling a Spanish player to go forth and multiply. It seems bizarre then that she won over better candidates, and maybe even that she was on the shortlist when others who should perhaps have been on, weren't.

I have nothing against Mary Earps but anyone could have predicted in January that regardless of anything that happens in 2023, the BBC would simply push its agenda and give a woman footballer the Sports Personality of the Year.

Mary Earps, the woman I shall always remember for wearing sexy revealing lingerie with just a skirt covering the bottom half, rather than remembering her for what she has achieved.

I have the utmost respect for mary, but there were champions even multiple champions in contention, and she won nothing but the Balon D'or for best goal keeper which is no small feat but she's not a champion. Stuart broad cemented his place as one of the greatest bowlers of all time not just fast bowlers. Frankie Detori is without doubt one of the GOATS in horse racing. I see a lot of comments that it's because she's female but if that were the case KJT should have won, it's simply the overwhelming bias towards football. As a world champion heptathelete KJT is considered one of the finest all round female athletes on the planet, but if you're at the top in football you're viewed at a higher level, KJT would wipe the floor with the entire England women's football squad in any test of athletic prowess.

Our whole family voted for her, because we find her inspirational. Not many male goalies can save penalties at very crucial moments and she did it when it really mattered, regardless of whether they won or not, she stepped up to the plate, and saved that penalty, she cant go and score goals can she, so the onus wasnt on her to increase the goals, but to prevent the other side from scoring, and she did that beautifully.

It's a shame Josh Kerr wasn't even nominated and yet he won only the second gold in the 1500M since the days of Coe, Cram and Ovett. Mary is a good goalkeeper in women's football but England didn't win. If after the men's team lost to Italy in the final Jordan Pickford had won SPOTY I'm sure people would have found it a tad odd.

I think you would be surprised at how many people do know Mary Earps. This whole family of Scots know her as we were all glued to the Women's world cup in the summer, and although we are Scottish, haha, we were supporting the Lionesses, and there are 3 males and one female in this household. Two of the males are 29 and 32 and they are Mary fans too. Many people are following womens' football these days so women like Mary are more well known than you think. I would rather watch the women than the men these days, I got bored with mens football a long time ago, and watching the Womens world cup in the summer ignited my interest again. Mary also won womans footballer of the year as well as the golden glove at the world cup. I am a 62 year old Scottish woman and I know who Mary is and I am a big fan, and we all voted for her!!

@paddymeboy Jo was out drinking with 3 lads in the pub from Bethlehem joinery and never saw the birth when he got home he knew she'd be pissed so he told the 3 lads to wise up and give a few gifts so as to cheer her up otherwise she'd have the hump with him for weeks. The rest they say is history.

She's so whingey it puts people off, and though she's won the World title twice it has never been when the opposition was on top form. She's hard to get excited about. It wasn't a vintage year for sport, but personally I think the outstanding British achievement was Josh Kerr's in beating Ingebrigtsen, an all-time great still at his best, for the World 1500m. But it's pretty obv the BBC wanted to funnel people towards Earps, with or without the 'twer' - partly because she's a lady (granted KJT is that too), and partly to plug their coverage of women's football.
