Engine re-fit on my 1994 BMW F650 Funduro |

Continuing the restoration, here we fit the frame and the engine back together and begin to assemble stuff onto the frame, so that we quickly get a bike together again.

    Yes it is almost mandatory today to have a hobby that prevents you from watching TV. My friend is retired and can't do anything hobby wise. He is always so angry at some more fake news that has just been thrust under his nose. Not good for the heart.

    Thanks for your answer, I'm surprised that BMW doesn't use any relay to activate the full/dipped beam headlights. I wanna have a look at those wires I think the problem comes from the switch. I'll keep you informed. And again thank you very much

    Hi, Yes I am stunned there isn't a relay. But, I think that it is done like this because it is only a 'flash' switch, so it should be on and then off quite quickly. Let me know if you need any more info. Happy to help

    When you refurbished the forks and replaced the seals did you go with new springs/upgraded progressive,or simply refitted to originals? Great video, I've just subscribed.

    Hi, No when I re-built the forks, I checked the length of the fork springs with the specs, and as they were ok I re-used them. There would have to be a very good reason for me to replace them.

    thanks for answering my problem is no more flash the headlights when I press the button I'd like to know the color of the wires in order to test the button and the circuit relay and so on best regards

    Hi, There are two wires going to that switch. Green/black and white. The white one goes to the headlamp. The Green/black one comes from the fuse that feeds the lights, horn and many other items. So, if your horn etc works then the problem is probably the switch. If they don't get much use the switches can become corroded so it may be necessary to spray some contact cleaner in there and work the switch quite a bit to 'wear' it back into use. Hope this helps. There are no relays on the headlamp flash circuit.

    For painting the metals what kind of paint did you use and did you do multiple layers or just a single one?

  • @RestorationBiker

    @RestorationBiker

    Hi, the painting of parts is quite involved and I am not a very good painter. I normally get the right colour mixed at a local paint supplier (auto paint) They normally give me a really good colour match. I try if possible to strip all the paint off each part to then make sure there is no 'reaction' with the new paint and the old. I then use an 'etch primer' sometimes two coats. Then with the colour I normally use two or sometimes three light coats, to build up the amount of cover. Then I allow it to 'cure' for a week, before I polish it to get a good finish. Sometimes I have assembled the part before I polish it, it depends on what part it is. Because it is cold here int he UK in the winter months that can make painting much more difficult as if it is too cold you get 'blooming' Wife gets annoyed if I 'cure' painted items in the oven, but sometimes it is the only way. I may do some videos on the act of just painting as this may help people.

    Hi, They are very hard to find on these engines. It is on the top of the crankcase on the right hand side above the chain sprocket. You can see it from the (brake) side of the engine. Sometimes there is a sticker there with the number underneath it. Hope this helps.
