    Hearing someone say it belonged to an old lady, I remember once more than 10 years ago passing a GT3 Porche in a bright color, think it was green, complete with big wing and a roll cage, doing 80 or maybe 90 in a 100 zone on the Antwerp ringway. When I passed it (doing 100 in my old Diesel Focus), I noticed a posh but very amiable old lady behind the wheel, barely looking over the steering wheel. It was quite a nice contrast and a view I never forgot. :D

    Indeed a good save and good reflexes, Mischa, also to dart behind the orange barrier when the engine temperature light came on. 👍 I had a similar experience on a tight highway (without the emergency lane) when a valve on one of my rear tires failed and the tire lost all air suddenly. Luckily I was right by a short SOS lane that was probably 100 meters long and I managed to pull in there and stop. The next SOS lane was at least a kilometer away.

    Very impressive save Misha, what I’m amazed by is not only your ability to get to the shoulder quickly, but the presence of mind to reverse behind the barrier too. I am also very very impressed with the German engineering in that 996 GT3. As you were about to turn the car off I saw the coolant gauge, the needle was on 120degrees and the light was illuminated yet the engine is fine, very impressive. I once got my 2001 Audi C5 S6 to around 105degrees before I could get to a shoulder and pull off. I immediately was worried I warped the heads, maybe I’m too cautious. Either way, amazing save.👏🏼

    This really should be a lesson in keeping an eye on your gauges. The combination of battery the warning light and the voltage dropping from 14 to 12 should be an immediate indicator that something is up with the accessory belt. On these engines, both the M96/0x and M96/7x, that belt does alternator, power steering, and most importantly, the water pump.

  • @atom608

    @atom608

    Had this on my car, water pump bearing went out and power steering went straight away. Knew straight away my battery/powersteering and water went down as the belt snapped from the bearing but limped the car for 30 seconds into a spot and got it towed. Feel like someone that doesnt know much about cars might try limp it home and blow their engine doing that but a cheap water pump and a new belt later my car is fine and still going on

    Speaking of pulleys - on a car that is not used much in heavy traffic, it's a good idea to switch to an underdrive pulley, that spins the alternator, water pump, and steering servo slower, maintaining the longevity of these parts. Porsche might have engineered the components so that they can endure track use, but most manufacturers dont.

    This driver/owner has a great car here. My 1999 911 (996.1) was purchased from an owner that was going trade it in but wanted to give a new owner a chance to own it for below low book trade value that his dealer was giving him. I gave him a low bid on Ebay at a midnight auction. 10 minutes later I owned it. I DIY just finished replacing all of the rear-end components that were just getting old. Water pump. Thermostat, all hoses, overflow bottle and secondary air pump. Finally a new serpentine belt. My car broke down exactly as this one in your video. Great example of how you dealt with this very same problem. Thanks for your video.

    The last of the feeling of old vs new imo ended when they went form hydraulic driven power steering for electric power steering. Something about that change is what really changed the feel of everything. Now Porsche is the best in the game at EPS, but something about the steering feel with EPS is just off compared to hydraulic, not that we have a choice anymore. With that being said I think you'd enjoy a 997 as well in terms of "feel" as they are similar in weight with hydraulic power steering.

    Hi MiSHA.. That was a good decision to pull off the track as quick as possible. Thankfully it didn't happen at full speed going thru tight twists & bends on the track. It could have ended ALOT worse for you & the cars owner! This is kind of similar what happened awhile back. I remember when you took another "classic" Porsche out for a spin on th'Ring and the brakes failed on you ! I am rather curious tho... why the Crank pulley snapped off ?? At a rough guess: were the bolts that fasten the Crank pulley "over" tightened? Too much torque wrenching on them that it caused metal fatigue, hence under stress they snapped off while driving ?? Anyway good that it ended Ok Love ya work bro👍🙂👍 Godbless & ava Gday 🙂

    I'm sure this has been asked before, but is it possible to film a POV lap using a VR180 camera set-up? Would be popular in VR, especially with experiencing all the different cars, 'cos you 'feel' the bumps in and the engine is right there in your headphones. I'm sure logistically it would be a nightmare, and expensive haha. But FUN!
