Engage 16 with Wanja Michuki (Part One)

What goes on in your mind as a mind, body and soul when innocence is stolen? Right in your back-yard? Wanja takes us back into her past, tells us about the Monster of Shame that pursued her everywhere she went. In this 3 part talk, she talks about living in shame, fighting the shame and overcoming it. On the outside, she was the picture of perfect success, a high academic, career and business over-achiever to hide what she felt was her “flawed self”. Watch all three parts for this deep, insightful and deeply personal story that has a message for all of us in how to prevent and deal with this when it happens.

No one got it all.. no matter the exposure we've got or the prestigious families some of us come from.. most of us, if not everyone of us, got bruises, experiences that haunt us... Wanja, you're such a strong lady...

Wow 💕 regardless of the painful story,am more happy to know that you went ahead and started therapy. I know the power of it. And how I like that you had to find your inner child. That's what was needed dear one. She needed you to find her and connect with her. Thank you for loving her and giving her warmth,am sure today she is on another level. To the people reading this, I hope you all connect with your inner selves, those little girls and boys.

Thank you so much for sharing that part of your story. You are extremely brave to talk about it with people you don't know.I hope the guy is suffering till this day.No child, matter of fact,no human should go what you went through.I'm glad you're still here with us.Bringing awareness. These things still take place & I hope one day,the laws will be different. It's about time justice prevails.Wish you nothing but peace & balance

God bless you Wanja. It's true we are here to be fulfilled not having monsters on us. Thank you for helping those people who have gone through it. I remember a time i almost fell victim of defilement, i was like 12years and me and my family had gone for last funeral rites. We had spent the night there and my auntie had sent me to the next tent to pick a cup, i wondered around and couldn't locate the right tent, only to meet a man standing in the banana plantations where other people had pitched their tents. When he asked me whether i know about sex, i just ran off like crazy. I thank God who delivered me from that monster. I pray for people who have gone through this to be delivered in Jesus' name.

Thank you for sharing. You have shed light to so many lives. The inspiration of overcoming and hope of a bright tomorrow for those who are going through a dark moment. It takes courage, lots of courage for a Kenyan to open up as you did and the assurance that lives can be turned around.

When life happens to your kids don't make them think they are special victims. Teach them to take risks and embrace uncertainty. Life is fair.
