Perpetual Testing #235
“Energy Redirection”
By | \_/ ()
Portal 2 Community Maps & Mods
How exactly does one go about making Aperture High Energy Pellets even more dangerous than they usually are?
Isn’t it obvious? You simply use them to weaponise an otherwise relatively harmless cube!
What could possibly go wrong with that?
Thank you for joining me as I test my way through the infinite number of community test chambers, custom made testing scenarios, mods, and player made maps available for Portal and Portal 2 through the Steam Workshop.
All thanks to Cave Johnson and his Perpetual Testing Initiative.

Hey, thanks for playing my map. This vid really made my day! I’m so glad to see you liked it, even though while I was watching I was constantly wishing to have made it better. 😅 Actually, I created this long enough ago, that I had forgotten what the solutions to some of the puzzles were and what details and “secrets” I’ve put in. So I was basically experiencing the map alongside you while watching xD And yeah, I think you thought and did everything I expected the player to think and do. So it fits to say, This was a triumph! I’m making a note here: Huge success! It’s hard to overstate my satisfaction!

Hi, sorry for taking so long to reply! I'm really glad you enjoyed watching this :) First off i'm really sorry for getting your name so badly wrong lol, i really didn't spot it as making letters, so i do apologise! This was a great map with a really fun new kind of cube to play with, i can totally see that having loads of applications for different puzzles, also if you happened to make co-op maps, a fun weapon too lol. It did take me a long time to work out how to get up to the easter egg door (mainly because i'm really stubborn at trying the wrong solutions) but it was worth it :) and i always enjoy it when creators go the trouble of putting extra things like that in, so thank you for that too. if you have any more maps you'd like me to play then please do let me know. Thank you for making and sharing your work with community! and of course for watching!

Yeah the high energy pellets are easily one of my most feared parts of this game, the amount of times i've been killed by one is ridiculous. I do really like the idea of aiming them like this though, even if it does mean theres a greater chance of taking one to the face :) Thanks for watching and for commenting too!

At first I thought this puzzle mechanic was going to be a ripoff of the cubes from Rexaura, but this is completely different. It has everyone's two favorite puzzle mechanics in one, energy pellets and timing. Now imagine this testing element but with the infinite green pellets... that would be evil. 7:33 If Chell had the agility of Lara Croft I don't think there would even be a game. She could just climb up the walls of every chamber to get out. Aperture prefers its test subjects to be short and weak.

my guess is that when it collides with something, it sends out a raycast to leave the mark. problem is, the collision for the raycast is different from the ball, meaning that the collision check for the wall is slightly different from the check for the mark. either that or the energy ball hits it just a little bit too close, and the raycast goes right through the wall.

What made you get in the Portal fandom?

The half life games where such a big deal when i was a kid, that when i saw valve were releasing Portal i had to try it, i love the humour and the universe that valve created with Aperture Science, and then when they released the Perpetual Testing Initiative DLC and opened everything up to the community it meant there was a never ending supply of a great game :D There are some incredibly creative and talented map and mod makers in the portal community and they keep making more and more impressive content, even now, for an 11 year old game it's still going so strong! Thank you for watching and for asking too! :D
