Endurance Tortoise Vs Aero Hare | Who Can Ride The Furthest?
Спорт
Winter isn't normally when most riders attempt endurance cycling challenges, but this year Hank and Mark Beaumont have decided to take up the challenge of riding as far as they can on the shortest day of the year. This time, rather than riding together, our adventurous pair are racing each other, and they've gone for very different strategies!

@@gcn Do recumbent versus TT. Or recumbent versus mtb on the road - with an enduro bike, on thick slicks, but on a difficult uphil and downhill and very side-wind-y (lots of turns).

Didn't thought it would end like that. Great message from Mark. Great speed shot from Hank. Have a great day everyone
Hank is just about up for anything love his excitement . Mark is an inspiration to anyone who wants to cycle further 👌👍👍
I’d have taken the Endurance rig for sure. I did a similar challenge on Winter Solstice, with the aim of doing 200km of paved and snirt (snow-covered dirt) roads. Weather cooperated nicely, hovering around freezing, and I pulled off 201.35km in 7 hours, 9 minutes rode time. That got me home almost an hour before dark, to my family’s surprise, and that was with a coffee stop; sweet! I’d never considered such a winter challenge, but it felt like exactly what I needed this year.
All the Mark Beaumont shows on GCN are fantastic. From the vintage bike "Le Tour de France" to the trip to Patagonia. Hank is the perfect companion, just like Don Quixote and Sancho.
Wow, Mark worked 15% harder for 10.5% longer to get basically the same distance. Really shows the watt savings of the TT bike.

Back when I was young and bulletproof I did Cycle America. A 12 week, 12 state tour from Portland Oregon to Portland Maine. Rain or sun shine, it even snowed on us going through the mountains. Everyone should do something like this at least once in their life. We rode between 70 to 120 miles per day. Now eons later, I’m trying to get my bike legs back, this ride brought back those long days in the saddle memories. Next year I’m hoping to be able to do it again.
Love the respect they both have for each other, and each one of them individually. They both are fantastic each in their own way and approach. Fantastic to watch and follow your adventures!

Maybe the filming motorbike helps ease the tension. The difference i’ve noticed between place like canada/northern US states vs europe is that we have “snow plow turnaround” areas on the road which are also very useful to get out the way and ease the amassing rear traffic. I simply couldn’t live with myself holding up more than 3-4 cars
