This is so much better than the channels with tricks. Such tricks are only stressful for animal. This channel with more natural habitat and showing his living should be something that we look upon.

Have you tried looking into superworms instead of mealworms? I know some lizards can have digestive issues with mealworms due to them having a lot more chitin, hamster friend might have the same issue

Have you found live plants to be impossible? I guess watering will be difficult? What is your experience with grass and field flowers

Several of the forums I have looked over strongly try and persuade people not to set up a habitat like this because of risk of respiratory infection if it is too moist or something from the soil. Did you sterilize the soil first and then add springtails and other insects? And how careful do you need to be with watering the plants so as not to create an environment that is too humid? I have watched all your videos and I would love to do this for my hamsters but because of everyone else saying not to I am somewhat leery. Any input you can give would be absolutely wonderful because to me this would be a better environment than a house made out of wood or coconut and bedding made out of shredded napkins. Also do you find the need to have a wheel for him to run on? Or does he get enough exercise running around his environment?

The soil does not need to be sterilized. It's only a matter of time before it gets tainted again anyway. Humidity bought a dehumidifier. Water only enough to wet the soil surface. The soil must be kept dry. In my experience, it seems good to put a large stone to make a gap. The reason hamskers are gray seems to be because they live in rocky areas or gray soil.

I don't know what kind of soil it is, but the famous soil for hamsters is Niteangel's cocopit!
