Endeavor Morse is my favorite tv detective hands down. Shaun Evans gives as nuanced a portrayal of More as the late, great John Thaw. When the show began 7 years ago I was somewhat skeptical of how well the back story of Thaw’s iconic detective would be. Five minutes into the very first episode my worries were allayed by Evans’ wonderful performance of a younger Morse. He simply the best actor for the role. Thaw must be giving him two thumbs up from on high.

I could listen to Anton Lessers voice all day.

Anton is one of my favourite actors, he is excellent in all of his roles!

Casting dept deserve a huge pat on the back too. Morse, John Thaw, is a hard act to follow. But they've smashed it.

Kit, a fine job. Endeavour was an excellent series but I thought it different from Morse in two important ways. First, the Endeavour plots were often almost like abstract puzzles while the Morse plots plausably arose naturally from normal human interactions. Second, Shaun Evans is a fine actor but I found his personality implausible as the young Morse. John Thaw as Morse is endlessly fascinating and arresting while doing even the most minor things because he has an unusual depth of person that is always being communicated. Further, there is a unique incisiveness to his manner of speaking interacting that is telling and captuvating. Finally, although a lonely man who can put people off, he has a great heartedness and depth of feeling toward life that draws us and opens our hearts to him. Although I much admire Shaun in his own right, his Morse didn't have these qualities.

I was really shocked by the pictures of Rigby and Bradshaw. I think I danced with Rigby in the parking lot of a bar, seventeen years ago. That is, if he's ever been to Long Island. Also, tell me your heart did not stop when you saw Mr. Evans' younger pictures. ESPECIALLY THE ONE FROM 2000. Good Lord.
