You probably know it was Kevin Whately himself who suggested Laurence Fox be offered an audition for Hathaway. Apparently he saw Fox in the TV mini-series Colditz and thought ‘that young lad’s awfully good; we should invite him to try for Hathaway.’ Nice one, Kevin!

So who did kill Harry Field - like conclusively ( why ? ).
@kitsullivan1583Ай бұрын
@randymurphy it was either Paul Eirl or more likely one of his henchman. Harry was killed as he was going to expose Eirl as having paintings in his art collection that were fake. Eirl was protecting his father's legacy as he was the one who commissioned fake art after the Second World War. The man who painted the fakes was Harry's father.

Thank you for this thoughtful review. I disliked this episode at first, and watched it several times before I began to appreciate it. The idea that it might be possible, using modern technology, to reconstruct and properly solve a crime that took place so long ago is fascinating. I found the flashback scenes to be haunting. Missed Lewis' unique presence, but i thought Kershaw was bright and focused on his task. Not my favorite episode, but altogether a beautiful one, I think.

This is actually my favorite Morse episode. It’s very special and different. Also it puts a natural view on Morse in his time in life. It’s a great building up to the Remorseful day.

Thank you for this great review. One of my favorite episodes, and I agree that it did away with any doubts about the series not living up to the standards set by the Morse series. All the cast gave memorable performances, and set the tone for the episodes to come. No matter how many times I watch it (I've lost count) it always seems fresh and compelling.
